sewing on hang tags / neck labels
« on: December 21, 2017, 09:55:44 AM »
Next year i want to start doing this. What do i need in order to be able to do this?

Looking to start with some simple equipment.

Are there any good tutorials anywhere?

If you want to do it right, you want a bar tacker sewing machine.

Juki is a name brand model, but you can get Chinese knockoffs for lesser costs, and as they are only sewing simple labels onto garments I don't really see much going wrong.

However you can just use a standard sewing machine.

We don't currently have a bar tacker, so we spray tack the back of the labels and sew them with standard sewing machine.

We also sew them in the necks rather than on the hems, the shirts have to be unsewn, the tag inserted, and sewn back together, this is a bear, don't offer it :)

But on the hems, sleeves, bartacker is the way to go, or a standard machine will do but much lesser throughput.

Hey Eric, is this something you offer now (as I'm resurrecting this post from the dead)? I've got a contract client that is looking to do this and am starting the process of looking into what I'd need, cost, etc. Names I've heard are JUKI, SINGER, Brother, and older models on Craigslist.

Thanks for sharing Rick! Was just watching a video on the Nexio and liked the inching and backtrack button feature near the head. I was thinking I wanted something that could do both hats (Post Bed?) and flats, but that might be too much and not needed for me. I've got one contract client that wants to have us see in their own label and seeing if it's a viable option and investment!
