I know there has to be more out there!  But I was watching an interview with James Hetfield and guess what?  He owned a t-shirt company before Metallica.  So here are ones I know.

Metallica-James Hetfield
Cake-John McCrea
Richard Rawlings-Gas Monkey Garage

anyone know any others?

Justin Beck of the band Glassjaw owns Merchdirect.

Also, far from famous, but I have been printing my bands merch for about 14 years now.

Lots of people from the punk and hardcore world that were in seminal bands that started screen printing companies.

As SEPSINK states, Merchdirect is a good one.

Blue Collar Press is owned by people who were in the band coalesce.

Shirt Killer is owned by people who were in Colisieum and a bunch of old hardcore bands from Louisville.

Printed Threads is owned by people who were in the Rocket Summer.

Heck, even I was in a band, and that's how we started/have some of our biggest contracts.

MerchNow, AKT, are some others.

Lots of liscenced companies, and contract companies are owned by band people, as well as have tons of ex band people working there.

I was famous before I started screen printing, so I guess that doesn't count. ;)

Metallica-James Hetfield
Cake-John McCrea
Richard Rawlings-Gas Monkey Garage

We print for the first two, oddly.

A (not seen in awhile) member here Jason Roeder was/is drummer for Neurosis.

A now defunct fairly large shop Cinderblock had a lot of people going both directions.
There's a lot lot more, but I'd have to have time to think.

Cinderblock was a haven for musicians in the early to mid 2000s. I knew tons of people that worked there, all from punk bands.

We probably know some of the same people then. It was a nice shop. I applied
for and was hired to mix ink there but had other priorities at the time. They tried to move
production SOtB and that was the end.

The first shirt I purchased with my own money as a kid was an Operation Ivy shirt
printed at CB. White ink, apparently folded over in the dryer or cured
with a flash because half of it washed out!

That’s pretty awesome Jason Roeder was a member on here. Looking forward to seeing sleep in a few months. I went to San Fran just to see them and neurosis play..

I’m not famous but punk/hardcore bands are definitely what got me starting to print for other people.

Oh lord hahaha I know a ton of people that worked there. I have employees past and present that were involved with that place. Amazing place that success kind of did itself in. My friend was an accountant there and the stories whether true or not would make your head explode!

Celebrity in the Hot Rod game who screen printed would be Andy Brizio. That dude goes back to the birth of the National Hot Rod Association and the Automobile Timing Association of America.
Really made his mark with Andy's T's pre-print line featuring a lot of Tedder.

Edit
Of course, he started as a hot rodder, who then printed hot rod T shirts, so I guess this doesn't qualify. Oh well.

I've also heard a ton of insane accounting stories! and EBscreen I bet we do!

The company that came after is also having people jump ship left and right.

They're still popular enough to have an intermediary and management haha.
Good taste in shirt/design as well. They used AA exclusively until Gildan bought them.

They started by selling tie dyes on telegraph. So yeah, I could imagine the things that could happen.
