Air compressor Tanks
« on: September 26, 2018, 12:32:27 PM »
How often do you check and let the water out of your air tank, I was surprise this morning when I open the peacock valve how much water came out, well I guess running during hot summer months might cause it to build up more water, just like removing the oil from the press little air tank, hadn't did it in a while so that's next on my list, didn't know about that until a year or so ago when a friend told me about it.

every day.

get a zero loss auto drain

https://www.amazon.com/Control-Devices-EH38-0LAAA-Generation-Aluminum/dp/B07D4ZLJP3/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1537980165&sr=8-2&keywords=zero+loss+auto+drain

only lets the water out and wont waste your air.

i have three, one on the tank, one on the filter after the air dryer, and one on the air dryer (the original one broke so i replaced it with one of these.

all the water drains into a filter system (removes oils) and then down the drain.

You can also install a auto release thing on the bottom of the tank and not worry about it anymore

Shop down the street did that years ago.  They literally filled the indexer with water.  This was in the late 90's.  A few years back they lit the same press on fire and burned up all of the air controls in the panel.  They had a guy welding a part and it lit the spray glue and lint on fire.  And sure as sh!t they couldn't find a fire extinguisher fast enough.

I am surprised this shop is still around.

Don't forget that water in your tank is causing corrosion in the tank.
This over time will weaken the structural integrity of the tank and you could be looking at a catrostropic failure when the tank launches into your ceiling.

one of our old tanks had a pinhole leak from corrosion.  luckily i caught it in time and nothing was damaged. new tanks were expensive so we bought a used tank.

Homer yes the sky light is a kickass feature but those tanks are really hard to aim at the right spot :P

And of course, what goes up must come down, so even a neighbor could end up with a kick-ass skylight!

Your compressor sits in an enclosure that protects it against the elements? I`m playing with that idea for our new shop.
