Trump Tariffs
« on: October 19, 2018, 06:51:21 PM »
We're doing some 2019 pricing for one of our clients and they asked if any of our shirts would be subject to the 25% Chinese tariff that hits in 2019.  I looked around but couldn't find much info about it out there.  Do you guys have any thoughts on the Tariff stuff?  I'm guessing it will only be goods that are made in China, and maybe Next Level and anyone else that manufactures there will be scrambling to shift purchasing to other factories that can keep prices cheaper, so maybe there is not enough info out there yet.  But any info you guys have about which brands and which types of goods will be affected by the tariff would be helpful.  Thanks guys.

As of right now you have nothing to worry about. We do a lot of cut and sew with our friends overseas in several countries. So far it is China only and it is for zippers, hang tags, drawcords stuff like that. Basically what goes into the final product but not the final product itself. If that happens then Walmart and those box stores raise the prices 25 percent and then the current administration faces public outrage. So we are all fine for now

I've received only one email from vendors regarding this so far and that has been from Richardson caps...they said a price increase was coming because of these tariffs.

its a good way to raise prices even if its not true and it does not affect them.

I have a friend in the elevator business. He was told by corporate that they will be raising all prices due to the tariff. He asked why. Apparently it really will not effect them. The answer was "because can and people will blame trump". I fear that we may all face price increase for the same reason.

Just like aca and the insurance companies.

Raise rates and blame someone else.

Got that email, if Richardson gets anymore expensive I don't know if I'll be able to sell it.  They may be the only "wholesale" company that has 100% or more markup.

Nice hats though.

for us north of the border I have seen some increases, oddly on spray tack adhesive. Haven't got any prices on new presses but have wondered if there will be higher costs there?
