Castle Screen Print Auction Tomorrow
« on: August 18, 2019, 10:47:54 AM »
Anyone bidding or going to this?  Tiger Auctions is charging an 18% buyer fee per item this is a deal breaker for me.  I'm assuming most of this is going to make it's way to Mexico and South America but thought I'd check and see if anyone was going to bid.

it's actually Tuesday. but yes i'm watching it.

In an auction like this, most of the big equipment is gonna go for around retail, cause people get caught up in the bidding frenzy.

It's stupid how stuff goes for around retail.  And often needs enough work, time, money to put it around 125% of new cost.   Auction bidding is an addiction for some.....

I'd rather buy used direct from someone, or just get new and have the service and warranty.  Learned that the hard way.

It's always sad to see some of these places die out.  It's even sadder to watch what people are about to pay on this equipment.  I just can't get over the buyers fee.  It makes me want to go into the auction business.

the buyers fee isn't bad. Especially if you can get deals on things. Last auction, because i wasn't paying attention, i missed an all bells and whistles Amscomatic folder/bagger line by $15. With the buyers fee, and my freight, it would have been under $3k.

There are some deals to be had.  I knew a guy that got a Brother GT541 for $300 at an auction.  Everybody was paying attention to the embroidery equipment.  This was also back when these were new, so it was worth probably $15k or so at least.

Makes me wonder what strange places printing equipment pops up for auction and goes for nothing.

there are TONS of print auctions. Especially in large paper printing world, now that everyone is digital. I've missed a ton of killer deals because i simply couldn't click fast enough, or was on a call.

When people win items on the online auctions, assuming they are out of the area, how do they arrange shipping? Do they auction companies assist with this? Do you hire an independent moving company to go in, crate it up and have it ready for a truck?

usually the auction companies have riggers assigned to the auction, or you can hire independent techs to break it all down.

How do you go about finding these auctions besides TSB and email alerts from other vendors or publications?

This could be an interesting auction, I seem to remember Castle did some R&R and product testing for M&R.  May very well be some one off configurations so make sure you get specs  and serial numbers to register for service.
