I remember that one with the nascar.  Used to index seps sometimes but haven't utilized it for a long while.  For some art, especially very "digital" looking art, it's absolutely perfect.  I recall using that tutorial to sep out the ABC logo, the blue/grey one with a million gradient elements in it, and it blew my junk off with how well the art reproduced in only a few colors.

I like that the butt reg square dots will gain out a little and create a little bit of WOW blending on the dot edges on press, it really can add something to the right art.

Yea, I rarely index anything now.  But for the right design its pretty amazing, and in a pinch its a wonderful tool in the toolbox!

The Nascar tutorial was on Jimiyo.com, but the site is no longer up. The Wayback Machine has the site archived at
https://web.archive.org/web/20080210182425/http://www.jimiyo.com:80/indexseps.htm
It doesn't have the full text, but there are some good points to be learned and the sample art really shows what can be done with index.

John Leans tutorial is also no longer on his website, but can be found at https://web.archive.org/web/20120107031312/http://www.teedesign.com:80/Technical_Info.htm . This is a great resource for anyone interested in index seps. A more step by step tutorial.

If you have the screen count and a limited gamut index is sweet!

Fixed the Jimiyo link.

Mr. Peabody! Such a cool and Wayback reference.

Printed my sample art on an indexed underbase too. Such a nice soft hand. I am surprised how many people that haven't mastered halftones don't try index. If you have the screen count capability even blends work well. You just need to add a little noise to keep the "worms" from being produced in the seps.  You can see some banding in the small sample image, but it blended really nicely on the shirt.

Only goes to point to my age.  Rocky and Bullwinkle ended in 1964, yet I had no trouble remembering the "Wayback Machine", lol.

looks great! what's the reason for the clear underbase? just about all of the waterbase that i've done here has been for one or two clients and they really like the vintage thing so i haven't ever underbased for them
