Title: Hot Market
Post by: RICK STEFANICK on March 13, 2019, 12:40:25 PM
I realize all the variables involved but was wondering what you all  generally charge for Hot Market printing. I have been involved in that for many years but i'm sure things have changed in the last couple years.

Our experience, (Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins) is they tell you what they pay. Most of what we did was produce the printing, pack all boxes with the same mix of sizes, and locals could come pick up "x" number of boxes, the rest would ship UPS and/or FedEx, all labels provided. From what we knew, all were pre-sold. A lot of mom-and-pop shops, as well as some large department stores. We worked for a division of Reebok when we did this. We thought the money was fair. We preferred the football ones though, as it was a good boost during the first of February; we kind of started to depend on it around here...

Depends on a lot. Usually you will set up all the presses with the (hopefully) winning team graphics ahead of the game. Then you get the call, usually Sunday night. So much fun bringing the employees in at 11:00 PM! Who knows what shape they are in but know this....it can kill the rest of normal production for the rest of the week. Also, do not forget to price in Holographic stickers etc. In recent past, I have had negotiations where, if the team loses we get compensated. Not much but better than nothing. Think of it....taking and unpacking pallets of garments and then having to do all that reverse work. Not to mention all that press and pre-press time. Debbie Downer here but ninety cents per does not cut it for me

We were able to get rid of having to do the hangtags, but the stickers were a must.

We won’t touch it for under $1.75 a side.... seems high but when you factor in the other business your probably having to turn away, among putting your team through hell for a day or week I actually find it low. With us being 100% waterbase here too these days we probably wouldn’t even consider it. We love not printing plastisol.

We have seen contracts from $0.80 to $1.50 depending on the customer and finishing.

Hey Rick

they will generally tell you - you accept or walk
We did it for a few years for NFL and such
Those were driven by Reebok and the like
I think it is all through another company now..........

Out of curiosity, for those of you who do this a lot, is Front Page still doing these?
They'd make deals with the publishing companies and contract local shops to print a copy of the local newspaper's front page.

Not sure if they are still around. Great war stories. Ripped up a brand new belt printer. Had to be scrapped. Best I know is Paramount and Fanatics control most of this. (800 pound gorilla) That said good business deals are all around with eyes wide open. Devil is in the details.
