What year and model iMac do you have? Once we have that information, we can determine which version of thunderbolt you have.

Go with an IPS display - more color accurate than other display types. HDMI cable with an adapter.
Once you know the version of Thunderbolt, you just need an adapter like:

But make sure it's the correct version first.

Apple menu, About this Mac, System Report, click on Thunderbolt in the left column...

haha,.. no I don't want a thunderbolt.. I was wondering if anyone had any monitor recommendations that would be comparable to my iMac... or are they all compatible?

You don’t need a Thunderbolt Display, but you’ll need to know what version of thunderbolt you have in order to figure out what adapter to use. I would recommend an LG monitor, which I believe is what Apple uses. They are affordable, but you’ll need to know which type of connection you have.

oh ok...
does 0.15.0 sound correct?

Mine says Firmware Version 23.10, if that helps...

When we added a monitor to Mac Mini, I just looked up instructions on youtube, it was pretty straight ahead, and it certainly works.
