Title: Production program - looks amazing
Post by: Maxie on October 30, 2018, 08:35:16 AM
Someone recommended this program to me, looks great and is cheap.
I am testing and looks like I'll start using it.
On their www they have youtube of a silk screen printer in Portland who is using it.
Is anybody else on TSB using it?

we've been testing it. It's pretty neat. it's about to get better, when they introduce some new features shortly.

Looks pretty good, as a matter of fact it looks a lot better the Trello which we are using at the moment.

We started using it a month ago and we are fully integrated with it now, it has been great for us!  Before this we were using Google Calendar and I really loved our previous system.  Google Calendar was great for me since I could have so many calendars shared or not shared with others.  I had my own daily to-do calendar (hand out paychecks), my personal calendar (dentist appt) and my wife's calendar (on call tonight) all meshed in with the work calendar.  I was having a hard time with Monday.com at first since I had to switch back and forth between the Monday system and my personal calendar.  However we eventually figured out that Monday will sync with google Calendar and that sealed the deal for me.

We went for the $1500/yr plan, I bet we will be more efficient to recoup that cost.  If you do sign up their sales rep gave us the code 10PEROFF for 10% off.

You can also email them to become Beta testers and they will unlock new features for you that might be buggy.

We use it too, as Rob and Eric know. It's amazingly simple and effective. Sign up for the trial. It's free and no credit card required.

So would you guys say that it has all of the features that Printavo has plus some? We are currently using Printavo and are not thrilled with their support and features.

It's a tool that works in conjunction with it. It doesn't replace printavo.

Monday was what we used before Printavo and I prefer Printavo.

We started using it this week, so far its an adjustment but love it. We are big enough now its hard to figure out where we are on things like sorting/ordering/screens/etc so its already starting to come together and we are just 3 days in of use.

Our embroidery operator will probably kill me when i have them start using it.

Our embroidery department is using it here. The sew sheet, .dst, proofs, notes, etc are all put in Monday. The machine op has everything she needs which has freed me up considerably.

We are running the 2 week rest and the more I see the more I like it.
We now right down printing times, this program has a timer.   You click on it when you start and again when you finish, it records the time.     If you want to you can enter total time.       With the timer program cost $120 a month, I think it’s well worth it and this includes unlimited storage.
I also like the fact that you can have as many boards as you want so you can use it for production, sales, task management, whatever you want.

I had a more detailed post you got blank page when submitting. Monday is very robust yet simple at the same time. It gives a complete workflow for every task, for every job, in the process. This is our general flow.

1) Order arrives and is entered into Monday.
2) Goods are checked in and logged.
3) Proofs are generated and submitted for approval.
4) Once approved film is printed.
5) The screen room instantly knows that screens are needed.
6) Once burned the press ops know what goes on the press next.
7) Once completed the run order is filled out and move to the Complete board.
 8) The job is invoice and the pulse is archived.

Proofs, run orders, notes are all stored with the pulse/job. On a reprint you simply unarchive the pulse and all of that data is restored. The program is much deeper than this but it should give you a basic overview.

This looks cool but I'm wondering if there is a benefit for a smaller shop like mine with something like this. I feel like Printavo does a good enough job to keep things organized for me. I'm guessing this is more beneficial for shops with several employees for tracking production times? I'm trying to justify the cost for myself but I don't think it would be worth it since I'm just one guy.

I can't see where a one man shop would get much benefit from monday.com, but I could be wrong.

I don’t know Printavo but a lot of the programs available do accounting and have options for ordering from suppliers.
This program is for organizing your workflow and for one person it’s really cheap.
I have set up using the 2 week trial and will be signing up for a year this week.

Post by: Maxie on November 24, 2018, 02:09:00 AM
I have set up all my production work flow on monday.com
also set up a  new computer station that is next to the printer with a big screen.     The graphics save the mock up, we open this and the printer sees what he is printing, also sees what he has to print and marks what he has finished.
I have 10 users so it costs about $100 a month and it is really easy to use.
So far we are very happy with the program.

If they have referral codes I'd definitely use yours if/when I sign up!

Don`t you worry, they have discount codes , you just need to ask them.
Sign up to the free trial period, 2 weeks and then near the end they will email you constantly reminding you to sign up to the full version. That`s when you ask them if they have any promotions/discount codes going and just by magic they do.

I don't mind showing you ours but it's in Hebrew.
They let you download a free trial and there are lots of examples on their website.
It's great and if you are a small shop very cheap, we pay $100 a month for 10 users.

We use it as a giant spreadsheet. They are adding new features to it everyday, so it makes it pretty rad.

Each department is able to track the status of their job, and we use it to digitally track and alert staff on job issues.

OK, so what am I missing here? We get all of those features with TeeCal and it's already set up (and is pretty cheap).
Since they added the shop floor feature and moved to cloud data storage it ticks off all the boxes that I can think off or am seeing here in this thread. What am I missing?

Each department is able to track the status of their job, and we use it to digitally track and alert staff on job issues.

Doesn't Printavo do that also?
Where does Printavo fall short and Monday  is necessary?

We currently use Trello for production manager, Monday seems a lot more robust, I can see the benefits there.

I'm considering switching to Printavo next year or something similar to help manage the whole shop, from quoting, proofing, production and invoicing, with some amount of customer interaction in the system and helps automate some of those steps.

I know there isn't a program out there that fits perfectly for everything.  But right now we use Trello, Invoice Ninja, Google drive, Google spreadsheets, Xero and alot of emailing. And jumping between all of them is confusing especialy as we continue to grow.  Just hoping to simplify it all some....

Pierre I don't know TeeCal so I cannot comment on that and I am not knocking any of the programs out there.
I was using a program I had custom made and it was missing a lot of features.
I was about to have it re written for a lot of money when I found Monday, we tested it for 2 weeks and then signed up for a year, for 10 users it cost us $100 a month with a discount.
It's cloud based, also has a phone app and has everything we dreamed of and more and every day we find more features.
We are not in the USA and don't need accounting and ordering that some of the programs have.
Monday is easy to set up, easy to use, very well designed, gives unlimited back up (which could be a disadvantage if all our info is on their server and they stop working for some reason.)
I put a big screen next to my printer so we attach the mock up in the program and open it when printing like Merch Monster does in the video that was on another post.
We can time set up and printing.    Send emails through the program     It has great features, another thing I like is that you can have as many boards as you like (they call the work area a board).
So you can have one for printing, one for embroidery, another for CRM, maintenance, anything you want.

I won't lie, I have a problem when a software company's website SUCKS.

That just doesn't sit right with me.

For those looking for a complete system, monday isn't for you. For those looking for an easy, fluid, elegant production scheduling and task program, you owe it to yourself to look at monday. We have found nothing that displays the data in the way that monday does.

If a screen print based software does all monday.com does ive never seen it.

Everyone in my building has it on their phones as well. So they literally get a alert when something pertains to them. So nice.

So just started the 2 week trial.  So far it looks amazing.  Couple questions for folks who have been using it a while:

Is there a way to have a sort of master board and pull data down to department specific boards?  Essentially, we do A LOT o different stuff and frequently have mixed production jobs.  For order entry reasons it would be nice to be able to associate those different components being made in different departments in a way that still linked the jobs together by client order.  think order number with line items below being sent to the different departments.  Looking into tagging, but it seems a little limited.

any way to do customer management and have that info populate to the jobs?  thinking something like a customer board, then being able to create jobs that are associated with those customers.

would love to see more screenshots of how people have stuff setup as well.

thanks!

damn...that may be a dealbreaker for us.  I would say more jobs than not that come through our shop involve multiple departments and those departments need to be able to see the status of the different parts of the job for customer contact and shipping reasons

any change you would be willing to share how you have yours setup visually Eric?  i'm mostly copying 1964GN for our trial currently, though I've already tweaked a few things.  Would be nice to contrast how other shops have theirs setup to get some ideas.  I'm not sure I understand what the little link icon means in his screenshots on some of the columns, though I havent dives too deep yet into the column types, automation, etc.

Title: Re: Production program - looks amazing

We use Monday for task assignment, its really great at that. We have it set up in departments. Screen Print, Embroidery, Art, Stickers and Laser. Each department has drop downs that are specific to it and we like it that way so far. Every employee has access to it on their phones, on their company computers and really anywhere with a internet connection. I have even had employees updating or adding notes after hours as they think of something. It's great. We use it also to have our proofs in (we also print proofs as well that travel around the shop with the orders), which is nice so they can zoom in for more detail of the art which a printed proof could never allow you that freedom.

The system is allowing greater knowledge for everyone to know whats going on at all times.

So you guys are keeping each department on a separate board?

We only have embroidery and screenprinting, I was thinking to keep them both all on the same board, each order line/pulse would have tasks for both, so when orders are in both depts I can see it all together in one spot. When an order only uses 1 dept, the other would just be blacked out.

I also like the spreadsheet feature so I can keep all finance details in the same order pulse.

we use quickbooks for invoicing.  it looks like we are going to either setup a tag with the invoice number or a link to the invoice as the way of linking between environments, but lean heavier on monday for job spec stuff.  i hate having duplication between environments, but our production staff really doesnt care about the invoicing and customer side of things much and the customer service people dont really care about the production tasks so the disconnect doesnt matter too much.  so far it looks like monday is going to be "good enough" for keep production moving and organized across departments.  i think we are definitely still going to be coding our own solution to solve some of the inherent issues with linking customer management and cross department tasks in a more intuitive way...

We do basically the same thing but we stopped printing out proofs. I do miss having a printed proof and may start doing that again. We have added computers to all departments and a big TV at the presses so proofs can be seen super sized. Having the run orders using google sheets has been a huge help as well.

Embroidery has it's own board. All sew sheets, dst files etc are stored in the comments. We still print out a sew sheets and make color notes on those but we also add color notes in the comments.

When jobs are complete they are move to the Complete board. When the owner does invoicing he can cross reference the paper PO with monday.

We are almost 1 year in and are still tweaking here and there. For task management, task tracking, and critical job info stored in the cloud in such a user friendly way, there is nothing that even comes close to monday

I was having the same problem too. We would like to track our Sales Order, Jobs independently rather than process the entire Invoice as a Job.

You can check out https://www.yoprint.com/production-management-for-print-shops/ (https://www.yoprint.com/production-management-for-print-shops/)

Basically, you can process your jobs in parallels or sequentially. You can also track and setup custom statuses for sales order, jobs and tasks independently.

If you want a walkthrough/demo or any feedback how it should works, feel free to reach out to me here in PM/Email via: jason@yoprint.com

We are currently still in the midst making the software better before we fully launch it on ISS Orlando 2019.

We used to use Trello + Quickbook + google spreadsheet to keep things going in the shop floor. Truth to be told, i really like Monday as Trello does not allow multiple statuses for tracking (po,graphic) a specific job. I'm thinking to create something like Monday + sales order + Po mgmt in one system.

Looks like we are moving forward with Monday, but going to just be using it for our screen department and some peripheral shop management stuff.  Don't want to overwhelm any other departments with change at the moment.  So far for internal department management it is near flawless for us.  Sucks a bit having to do double data entry for ME, but its still so fast to add info to and tweak stuff that the pros far outweigh the cons.  Once we get everything more polished I'll post pics and go in to more detail about our setup.

We use Trello and use labels for the non-linear stuff.

For example it comes into a list called ‘needs purchasing’. Garments are bought and labels are added for needs files, needs film, each supplier the garments are coming from, rush order etc. All with labels. If I’m doing film output I can filter by cards that ‘need film’ or if I’m mixing ink I can filter by that.

Only once all labels are removed is a card ready for production. Everyone is in charge of removing different sets of labels.
