Title: Do you thin down your pallet glue?
Post by: Dottonedan on September 12, 2018, 04:08:15 PM
Did I read that some people like to thin it down so that it's less tacky for some garments? Some thin trendier garments stick tooooo much and distort the image when they pull it off. Is it a matter of just putting down less glue or is it a best practice to thin it down?

I usually keep a couple of bottles of dilluted 50/50 and a couple of straight.  We learned that the hard way when we printed a square image on some little stretchy bella canvas tanks.

I like the food coloring idea. I think I will try that.

Thin it about 50/50. You can also simply add some water right on the pallet  when you add the water base .
Lastly if you go too far and you can trap mice simply sprinkle on some baby powder and brush it off with a stiff brush. We use a brush used to apply wall paper.

Nice!  Thanks for chiming in!  I figured as much. Wasn't sure.  And the food coloring, GREAT IDEA!.  No issue with it coloring a white tee for example?

Brilliant, I'm definitely going to start doing that.

I add about 25-30% water, but I'm going to switch to a 60/40 mix and see how that goes.

Ok I got to ask why do you need to see the glue? and yes we do a 60/40 mix or 50/50 depends on what we are running, after a run or before a run I take a spray bottle and wet each pallet and take a scrub brush to pallet it, re-energize's the glue plus removes a bunch of the shirt lint left on them.

Yep, 50/50.  And same question, why do you need to see the glue?  I can see it when applying for even coverage.

Haven't tried thinning. But after applying fresh glue, we always run a scrap shirt on each pallet to remove excess prior to the actual run. Sometimes do this twice depending on how much the fabric to be printed "grabs".

The food coloring is a novel idea. I hate when you realize you've missed a spot, and part of the shirt is lifting/shifting in an image area.

We use these...way cheaper than food coloring.  Don't drop them straight in, dissolve them in water first.  We do I think 5-8 per gallon, depending on the color we choose.:

This will depend on the brand...…….different strengths. Many overlook the opportunity to scrub and we wet BTW

I sure do. 50/50 with water for years. Full tack just stretched the print to much.
