Title: Printers Choice Inks
Post by: Rockers on June 19, 2019, 09:19:16 PM
Just changed to Union Ultrasoft black and it turns out it`s by far to glossy looking. Such a turn off.
I was told the Rutland matte black would be a great choice.
I was looking at the "Printers Choice Striker Matte Black" from River City Graphic Supplies. Would make sense for us as we order as well T9 of them. And the price for the black seems right too with $59/gallon.
Anyone tried Printers Choice inks?

I'm in Austin so I have used most of Kevin's inks. I like them, though not as much as the Rio inks we currently use. I tested a quart of the matte black, and it's definitely matte, but it's kind of a dark gray vs the jet black we prefer. I don't actually have a favorite black, but we print with the triangle batman black usually, mainly because it's good for transfers and direct printing and it prints really nicely.

The Triangle batman black is more on the matte side or rather glossy?

batman black was nice but way too runny for us, we couldn't scoop it. Wilflex Epic Matte is nice too, but we settled on CCI MB506. it had the least build up of them all, sometimes we print black early in sequence, cost is around 50/gal...

I use Rutland's Solid Black and we add 2% dulling paste. I add dulling paste to must of all inks.

Batman is matte when printed single hit and on the shirt. If you pfp or put it over another ink it glosses a bit, but we never do that in our shop. We frequently print black first as well. I don't think it is the black you're looking for and would probably suggest following homers lead. We mai nly use it because we have local access to it and it works well for transfers vs a Bunch of other blacks we've tried

Synergy Black is matte and really low build up. I mainly use the Epic Lava Black from Wilflex. Also a low build up and it's about $43 a gallon.

Just a note, that excess heat in the curing process also increases the glossiness

Spot color supply sells international coatings 7617 low build black, the first gal was kind of stiff which was great for scooping and printed very good, the gal I have now is kind of runny but still prints nice and the non build up on the back of the screen is great.  Black inks are getting about like white inks but less forgiving and cost less.

We recently switched to the Epic Matte Black but use a reduced version if the black is early in the print order or we are running multiple blacks on certain graphics. Our printers love  the way it prints and sheers the screen and sales loves the matte look in general and its a black black.

Really like the synergy black, but it does build up some height after 300 pcs if you print it before a base. Still my fav black, matte finish, great coverage.
