Title: Remote Desktop
Post by: T Shirt Farmer on December 07, 2018, 06:35:35 PM
Looking to work remotely, is Team Viewer a good app for this, what other options can be had with minimal to minor tech knowledge i possess.

Any reply is much appreciated!

Chrome Remote desktop is what I use from home/phone.

I set our bookkeeper up with RealVNC (https://www.realvnc.com/en/) to access
our Quickbooks file.

Both work fine, second is slightly more robust.

I use Splashtop.  Very easy and simple to use.  It is like 12$ a year. Much easier to setup than any other Remote Desktop

I second Splashtop. After using several different and somewhat expensive options over the years, it is by far the best!

Not a deal breaker, but it looks to me like it costs $60 a year ($5 month)

I use TeamViewer and install it on any system I build or maintain.  It is very easy to use and since a few updates ago, you can cut and paste from either system to the other.

With TeamViewer, I have access to any of my systems and cellphones.  Makes it super easy for me to assist a user having difficulty with a task or procedure they are not sure about.

I used to use windows remote desktop.  I have found though, that RDP can sometimes be a little tougher to work with.

It is very nice, but expensive.

You like the updates... I don't really like them.

It is not cheap...but I see it as the cost of doing business.  If I was just using it for my own use with my own systems I am not sure I would use it.  But, I have over 25 clients that I charge for system maintenance.  Some are weekly, some monthly, some quarterly.  They more than pay for the cost of the license.

I did not like the updates at first but now that I have used it for a while I do. It is more intuitive than previous versions.

Depending on frequency of use, you can use the free version.  TeamViewers system will, however, detect frequent connections and start to time out the connections at about 5 minutes.  They will then prompt for purchase.  I was able to run it on version 9 for free for over a year without issue. Now, I have version 11, that is perpetual, and version 13 which is a yearly subscription. I have not gone to ver 14 yet.
