Print location on totes
« on: August 01, 2014, 07:26:49 PM »
What's the rule of thumb for where to place the print on a tote?

Thanks!

Shane

are you talking about the canvas ones?   we do those all the time here.

we try to size the print so it's roughly 1-1.5" up from the bottom of the bag (or bottom edge seam if it's the pleated style)... and have the print end 1/2" to 1" before the straps...

this gives us the best results when printing them on the auto.

I just went and looked at some I printed, and the half dozen from shows hanging on a doorknob.

They vary from pretty much centered, to a little higher than centered.

Same rules as shirts, in that sometimes one needs to all but ignore some incidental part of a design in favor to a dominating shape.

Thing big elipse or circle logo with a small tag line. I noticed that on most of the giveaways, only the main logo was centered, while the line dropped lower.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Yep, canvas totes.

These are about 14" high. 13" if you minus the top hem at the opening. The image size is 6" (diameter/circle). I was thinking maybe 3" below the top (opening) hem? But I am really guessing on them.

Being a 6" circle, all the text is inside of the circle, you would center it?

I'd personally center it as well.

I was assuming you meant your 'absolute' maximum image size, which is what my customers all seem to go for.... ya know: "MAKE THE LOGO BIGGER!"

1.5" margin all the way around the bag, assuming circle or square-ish logo.

I'm looking at one of mine that's similar. 6" circular logo, 4" up. 3" down.

That stuff I wrote about the tag line is more like this example, a bag some nice folks at a church garage sale gave me to take my give-away records home during last Saturday's dog walk.

Thanks Frog!

I just finished printing them. I centered them and they look pretty good.

More often than not, we'll draw a mockup of the bag and place and size the art to taste. Then it goes to the customer for approval, and they can make adjustments as necessary. It cuts out the "trying to figure out what they want" part, and puts it
back in their hands. It seems to speed it up some...
