Jet Pro Soft Stretch vs Red Grid for Lights
« on: October 30, 2021, 07:34:49 PM »
Like so many things lately, JPSS is iffy on stock sometimes. Have any of you inkjet transfer folks tried Red Grid?
Is it comparable of just a "settle for"?
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Bought my last 11x17 pack of JPSS recently (10/09) from Amazon and I thought was a decent price compared to Coastal who was out of stock with no expected supply like the others.  Check it out.

In fact the price went DOWN (a smidgen) from my purchase date

That works out to $120 for 100 sheets, while Coastal gets $106 when in stock. I generally pay between $80-$90. Oh, and I guess it may be me reporting how the Red Grid works as I ordered a small pack.

With the way things are going with gasoline, turkeys, canned corn, etc. it's going to be a long time before you see $80-$90 again.......if ever.  Maybe after 2024.

Coastal has 100 11x17 sheets of Red Grid for 109.95.  Not exactly a savings worthy of calling Oprah.  Perhaps you found a better price.  Please update with Red Grid comparison.

By the way, the link I posted was for 25 sheets, which is all I needed.  Here's an Amazon link for 100 sheets for $110.99, must closer to Coastal's price....if they had it.

Okay, my report on the Red Grid paper for lights.
I'm a happy frog! Some colors even look a tad (get it?) richer with the Red Grid over the JPSS. Uses the same color profile from Cobra, peels easier, launders similarly (which means good, losing most of its hand with only minor fading)
Biggest difference I notice is it's a lot thinner. Makes for a smaller pile, and the only real drawback, if any, is a little more of a tendency to mis-feed if all is not well.  Shop around, there are deals out there better than Coastal, but then again, a dime or even two difference on a high margin finished product like a Digital Transfer T, is not a deal breaker.
Now, next up, for an eventual sample and test is a brand called Double Red Line.

I like that.  Still hot peel, right?

Haven't tried it, but they say it will also peel cold which also produces a glossier finish, though losing the ability to stretch it while still hot, and the benefits of better life that provides.

True.  Forgot about the stretching...and the burning flesh that creates  ;)

An addendum on my report on Red Grid.
It is not quite as good as the JPSS on open areas, in that it has a slightly more visible "tint". Not an issue on many designs, but is, nonetheless a potential issue on some. I did a design based on an Italian flag, and the center white panel was apparent. On my next, it was the usual space between large text characters and it was much more acceptable, though still slightly more visible than with JPSS.
I do expect it to improve with subsequent launderings.
