Something I did for the first time..
« on: August 03, 2012, 08:41:30 AM »
I printed some welding beanie hats last night. It went pretty good that to the special platen from http://www.pnwcnc.com/.
It was a test order for 250 pieces so I did not bother re-doing the screen (Some letters got washed out on 2 out of 7 logos and I did not have any more coated 110 mesh screens) otherwise I would be printing 7 instead of 5 at the time. The biggest pain is to load a pallet with the hats, but on the bigger runs I will have someone loading while I print. It looks like it will be 1000 piece orders every few months.
Another good thing is, one hit white was enough, no need for flash. 110 mesh on 40 Ncm Newman screen, 60/90/60 squeegee, printed with WM Plastic Ultimate white which has a bit of Puff in it. Puff helps it to be a bit more opaque than it would be normally.

After 30 minutes of printing, I got in the groove and loading became a bit faster, with two people on the press it would be a breeze.

It looked pretty interesting so I decided to share.

You know the guys who designed that were the guys in grammar school who used 2-4 pencils held/taped together when writing "lines" for punishwork.

Looks cool.

Dennis, the guy from PNW CNC had a similar design, I asked him to change it up a bit for me. He did send me the die cut file in illustrator to use for the template.
I finished up the job last night and I used 2 pallets. I had my wife help loading on one while I print and put them on the dryer. Finished about 80-100 on one side and did full 250 on the other side in a bit less than 1.5 hours (we were not rushing at all). 250 could be done in 2 hours easily if we were to rush just a bit more.
