Big Bonehead mistake
« on: March 19, 2013, 09:35:18 AM »
So we ordered a new dryer belt, and i didn't realize the string i used shrunk in the dryer. So that kind of rules. So i'm about 12-15" off.

I have a patch kit for my older belt, would that work to splice a long enough piece of that together? or will that eventually fail as the thread gets worn out?

Feeling pretty great about it, in case you were wondering!

if its short, cant you order a 12-15" long piece and attach it to the belt?

when we bought an extension to our raypaul (years ago) we bought a piece and just zipped it to the existing belt instead of ordering a new belt.

If the belt was ordered from us we can take it back and send you a new one. We can always have it cut down for a smaller dryer.

I agree that getting an extension may be best, unless the supplier will take it back and make you a new one, as Rich offered.

the best part about an extension is you will be reminded of your bonehead move every time you look at the belt.

Definitely easier to add to the belt, than shorten the dryer!

On my dryer, I did just that though, as the previous owner had extended the in-feed about three feet to allow two presses to feed a 30" wide belt.
I couldn't fit the longer dryer as easily in a smaller location, so I removed the I-beam extensions, and the additional belt piece similar to the one that you will get.

So, bonehead mistake? Maybe, but easily fixed? You betcha!  ;D

On that note, I wish to congratulate our members for showing a high degree of maturity and restraint with no sophomoric references to Eric's embarrassment of needing an extension.

It was tempting, but it says to "Play nice" above. If it makes you feel better Eric, I changed a starter on a '71 Barracuda, when it only needed a jump...

Steve

anybody else want to share a stupid story?

on purpose?  I have no idea why a mannequin would be in the middle of a press.
