National Gas dryer Problem

I have a National Gas Dryer that worked all day so we were getting ready to leave so we turned it off as usual. Well I remembered that I needed to print one more job so I turned it back on but it would not fire up. When I turn it on the pilot comes on and then when it gets gas to ignite the flame goes out. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Like I said it ran all day and them would not come back on.

That sounds like one of the problems our anatol dryer developed after about a year. What we had to do(and still have to) is attempt to ignite it 3 times in a row. Push for ignite once, wait for alarm, turn off heat, push for ignite twice, ect. On the 3rd time it fires up. Hope yours is a easy fix like this!

I'm not at all familiar with the National brand, but there may be a flame sensor that's not working. The unit shouldn't let gas continue to flow if it isn't burning. If there is a flame sensor, the first thing to do is blow air to it to clean it off. Maybe a simple cleaning is all it needs.

A couple of questions!
Are all your wires,connectors (two or three) in good condition,
No cracks in wire insulation etc.
How often is maintance performed, when was last inapectuon?
Do you get spark in your burner during trial ignition period?

Do  you get any flame at trial ignition period?
If yes, how big?
If flame is of sufficant size, check flame rod.
Last time  flame rod cleaned, changed?
Pull flame rod! Is is smooth,free of oxidarion,pits in metal?
If it is not pitted,clean with light sanding of rod surface with 400 grit
Sand paper.
Still doesnt work or if rod hasnt been changed in a few
Years, then change rod.
If it still does not work,check flame signal strenght.
If good then is a gas problem! Call your tech,IF they have gas experiance,
It will be simple fix.

I have a National - usually, it is buildup of carbon on the spark plug combined with a dirty flame rod. It is a pain to get into the firebox to fix.

Thanks all, I tried everything the rod the sparkplug the wire to the rod and nothing worked. I finally took off the Honeywell Brain off and cleaned the contacts and put it back on and it fired right up.
