Latest Issue of SP magazine
« on: June 09, 2011, 01:34:12 PM »
Good to see my old bud and former Art Director Mike Beckman contributing. Wish he'd join thiis forum but looks like he don't play that way. Anyway the rest of the issue is rather sad. The trades are'nt dead but they sure smell funny.
Did you notice BTW that in the textile auto review that the company that is "re-shaping the industry with better technology etc" did'nt even get a mention? Not even a sentence. Hmmmmm.

I've got a subscription that's about to run out, and I won't be resubscribing. They ought to rename it "Large Format Inkjet Magazine". I understand the industry is changing, but there's almost nothing in there anymore about screenprinting, and especially regarding textiles. Printwear and Impressions magazines have much better textile printing coverage.

SP is the last trade rag written by trade folks unlike the orthers being done by college journalism grads. Deborah leaving Imp was it's demise.

Who else remembers when Impressions was 300+ pages and SP was 150+ and it was like reading a technical journal.

Hey, look who snuck in. Hi Rick, didn't see you post in Introductions.

I used to collect the Mags and read front to back.had stacks of them to refer to. I still keep them but don't refer to them that often.

There's a slight sadness to it. I read my first SP in '75, I thought it was so cool that there was a magazine for screen printing. I didn't realize that there were zillions of mags for all trades and interests. I always absorbed it, but for the last few years, the inevitable changes have made me read it less and less, but I still have the subscription.

To anything in print on paper,  the internet and especially the creation of forums is the downfall of paper. As it pertains to trade mags.

I'm picturing George in the Apple store restroom even as I type (or key)
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?
