Title: DIY T-Shirt Folder
Post by: kingscreen on November 05, 2016, 09:47:29 AM
My father spent 40 years as an electronic engineer working in automation.  Now retired, he builds cool stuff just for fun.
This was built out of 90% re-purposed materials out of his garage and less than $100 in new parts.

The last step in the sequence holds the shirt at a 45 degree angle so a poly bag can be slipped over the tee.

That is bad a$$!!

Are you actuating each movement, or is it done with timers/relays??

It utilizes a sequencer.  I'm going to make a better video this coming week while we fold and bag a 1k piece job.

I love this... mickey at his finest. We copied the "As Seen on TV" one a few years ago with coroplast and duct tape, but this seems much better, lol...

Maybe you missed the price tags.

$100 vs $10,000!!!!

I think Scott wins!

Not at this time.  Sorry.

tell your dad he did a GREAT job.

Thank you.  I've been showing him everyone's compliments.  He's very humble and just says he's glad everyone likes it.  8)

Folding and bagging a 1,050pc. order today.  So far, we are averaging around 13-14 seconds per shirt with a two person team.

I’ve tried. He’s not interested. He’s working on a squeegee washer now.  8)

The folder has now folded over 12,000 shirts without issue.
We did drop out one of the steps in the sequence after figuring out we don’t need it if we just flip in one sleeve when loading. Every second counts right?

iam a real moose goldberg student of Rube Golgberg and when i saw the neat folding machine a couple of thoughts hit me.
 https://www.google.com/search?q=rube+goldberg&client=opera&hs=ZH5&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=IE_5YB3A_q47QM%253A%252Czlde-60LjaCxBM%252C_&usg=__EmjC-hBe48C0hogsSPy_FbkvGps%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjL57_ss5faAhUP3FMKHcvTDpwQ_h0I_gEwFw#imgrc=kVzNDFBoPnczTM:

Most of you guys have an auto running on compressed air.
Why not simply get one of the commercial folding boards or make one out of coroplast or similar . Mount it flat on a table top that has installed in it an air jet just like a blow gun or similar under each folding panel.
Using a 4 way valving system a blast of air , in sequence strong enough to throw the folding panel would most likely do the trick.
If you really wanted to get sophiscated solemoid switches and an Andrino control could automate the process from one button push.the cost for a manual setup would most likely be  under $400.00 for all the hardwars lines etc.
Just a moosegoldberg thought ::) :P

Scott, how about a photograph or video showing what’s under the table.

While this folder is really neat I don't think he could sell it away, someone has already build that machine or am I wrong? but King your dad is still a bad azz on building would love to have him around my shop 8)

The SpeedyT aka RoqFold is essentially the same. Mine has totally unique flipper mechanisms and a custom built sequencer so technically different. But he has no interest in manufacturing them. He’s working on an automatic squeegee and floodbar washer for me now. It’s going to be cool. 8)

Will you be selling the squeegee machine, or will you have plans for selling it?  Asking for a friend...

Probably won’t be manufacturing them but I’ll try to document the build for everyone.
