What is "karma" in the profile?
-
it's a thank you point
-
Thanks Frog ;D

see the little applaud and smite? It's like a rating. If you like the post you applaud if you don't, click smite.
we could set it up so when the karma is negative, at some point you get banned or suspended.

As was mentioned elsewhere, the two choices only appear after ten posts have been made.

Thou shalt not smite thee :'(

I notice that someone had a smite and now it has disappeared? If they can be erased why have them? Why do I even care?
-
For the record, I am not even crazy about the Karma program. Though its intention is obviously to graphically both praise and chastise, here, it was to also serve as a "pressure indicator" on possibly eventual disruptive posts, with specific numbers resulting in specific consequences.
As I said, I have never been crazy about it as it can be abused and also somehow seems a little like Junior High popularity contests.
Hopefully it, at least, won't be abused.

I'm an admin. I noticed I had one smite and I deleted mine to see if I could...and I could. The test was to see if I could do admin things while not logged in as an admin under my same account. I was not logged in under my admin status at the time and I'm not sure how that works or if others (that are not admins) can as well. Try it and see. Intending to log out and log back in to see if it took. I got caught up in some other post and never did log back out.
Being new to forum admin-ing, we occasionally do things here to see how they go. I felt it better to take one off than to give me some. I could have set up a new generic account but I did it on my own account since it was more active than a 10 post user. Then let it go to see if it would stick.
I will put mine back on after I check again to see if I can (myself). FYI, it does not tell us who gave them to us from what I can see.
I also feel it's not beneficial. It can leave you open to getting smites by those who just don't like you. The same person can smite you every 12 hours...and then you get to a specific stage and suffer consequences, all the while not knowing who gave them to you to confirm that it's not just one person,. It also does not tell you "when" you got the smite. Like what day (from what I can see so far).

Just changed mine. Doesn't show a date or any stats.
-
It says -15 Dan.

No.

Just testing :P

Did you try changing your own?
can you take away multiple negatives or positives in the same action? Like take it from 10 down to 1 by continuing to click DOWN?
-
I do not have nothing to click on my own post.
So, no, you can not change your own if you are not admin.

I can't either for here so I must have to do it from the back end only.
Orion, When I edited some post of mine in the (Ellipse Vrs Dot shape) thread... to be more politically correct, it may have removed your action if it was mine that you smited in that thread. Not sure when you smited or if it was me at that time. I only had one that I removed and it happened to be last night near the same time I was posting and editing my post. At any rate, my one is back on.

Never said I smote thee, Dan. If I did smite someone...well then, it was deserving.

See, you do like me don't you. :) It took Frog YEARS to even sit on the same lilly pad and now look at us. Two tad poles in the same pond. He's got a picture of me on his wall at work.

Funny you mention the picture, I have one of you covering the dartboard on the wall in my office. ;D
