Title: Union Ink Metallic Silver
Post by: Doug S on April 17, 2014, 03:43:50 PM
Anyone ever tried to print Metallic Silver through a 150/48 mesh?  That's the lowest I have besides going all the way down to an 80 mesh.  Seems like it would just drip through that one.  If not, I'll be getting some 110's in pretty quick.

80 is perfect for this ink, its what I use every time. Just go light on the flood.

Their real metallic silver has the unusual characteristics of being both runny when left sitting in an angled screen and hard to press through a fine mesh!
Also, be prepared for eventual tarnishing if not overprinted.

Appreciate the help guys.  The last time I printed with it was about 5 years ago and I remember using a 110 and thought man this stuff is thick until I noticed that it seeped through the stencil while I went out to get a bite to eat.  What a mess.  I'm just glad I still have a few 80 meshes around.

Your talking about the shimmer right?

I print that ink with 123 and 155 all the time. If its really thick mix it for a while.  If its still thick I do put some reducer in it. I have used it in the past thinned out on a 230. On a 230 it can get areas of blockage. My lowest screen in my shop is a 110. I only bought that screen to try it. I hate when I have to use that screen. It just lays down too much ink for how I print.

I've used the Union gold and silver shimmer through 156's. You might want to hit it twice to brighten it up, but it prints pretty well. Same for IC's silver shimmer.

Union makes Metallic as well as Shimmer.

Wilflex=liquid silver. Best product for this at a price.

I agree the liquid silver is WOW in a pail,  83/70 looks like chrome without too much effort.

Less is more when engineering the artwork.

We did Wilflex liquid silver through all sorts of mesh counts. Highest was a 180-S on the back of nylon jackets and some black tees. No issue at all. We did Union metallic silver through 110s and 150s. All cool. Never saw a need to go any lower then a 110.
