WOW, the stuff looks great!
no pucker on the knit hats (how did you do that?)
clean 3D
clean stitches,
NICE WORK!
pierre
-
Thank you! :P It's always good to hear from someone else that knows what they're looking at--helps me stay positive. LOL
I probably do the beanies different than anyone else...i've dicovered using the semi-wide cap frames (the one with the 'panel') with stickybacking on the inside, then hooping that, the beanie stays in place, you can get it straight and no weird stratch lines, and its as fast as hooping a regular hat. I put 1 layer of standard tearaway behind the stickybacking....
-
Looks great, Shelly!
-
Awesome work!!!!! Do you do your own digitizing? Those are very well done.
-
yes--self taught from constantly fixing the outsourced stuff... Thank you :)
-
Shelly has a real talent with the embroidery. We recently had a service tech here and he used to be a judge for impressions magazine, he said we could easily place with Shellys work. I was proud of her.
-
WOW
Looking good.
I will post something up in next few days. I'm working on a jacket back for myself, I need a bit more to finish digitizing and do a test sew.
My first full back with pin-striping, I can not wait to see the end result.
-
From one embroiderer to another - GREAT JOB!!!
You do digitizing also?
Frank
-
Thanks Frank! Yes, I do all of the digitizing as well...
-
One if mine first digitizing jobs about 1.5 years ago.
Jacket back, around 38000 stitches.
I was embroiderer with gold-ish (not metallic) thread in black army vest. (I think that I should start taking pics of the final products)

Here is a ton more examples of our embroidery:

I always hated doing jacket backs with that many stitches on my machine...never failed that we would leave the room for a moment and come back to a screwed up jacket for one reason or another. Nice work.

Painful isn't it. We dont enjoy jackets either at all. Take so long. We only have 3 machines, I hope to add another soon.

Which software are you using?
-
dont laugh.... melco design shop....5.
it gets it done for me, but i was told it was a pile of junk LOL

Hey, if it works.....
I have Pulse Illustrator, and I do most of my graphics in Adobe Illustrator to get the shapes to the Pulse. Mt version do not have that many drawing tools and that is how I get away with it. Get the shapes in, and then I manually do the digitizing (Assign fills, pulls, densities, etc....)
-
We dont have anything thats fancy as far as embroidery software goes. Shelly does it all manually, tracing all of it by hand.
I guess the reason we haven't spung for new software is she is getting awesome results. I often wonder how much time savings a better program would be and would the results be as good.

It is not really that fancy, it is lover level of Pulse. I would have to trace everything by hand too, but with a Auto Digitize function (I do not use it to get the final) I convert the vector shapes from Illutrator/Corel to a shapes that are ready for applying of the embroidery parameters. Apply, fill, pull, underlay (sometimes I do underlay manually), density and you are done. A lot easier that tracing with a fill or a satin tool.

Nothing too complicated but I thought that it came out pretty nice.

OK.
Those came out REALLY NICE :)
The guy just ordered another 100 of the hats on ma last post. We went with Otto A-Flex with flat bill.
Brandt, thanks for the input on the hats today.
-
No problem, glad to help!
-
Man. You guys sell the crap out of those flat bills. Nice stuff again!!!!
-
Hey Brandt do you guys offer specials to the industry? Like me? lol I have been looking for someone to do embroidery but have not found anyone local with the skills I see in your stuff. That is why I have turned customers away with embroidery needs and I hate doing that but I dont want to sell them junk.

We have no "contract" pricing for embroidery at this time. We are just a 3 head shop, we barely can keep up with our current customers already. I do plan to at some point add a 4-6-8+ head machine or maybe even more than one. We are happy to do work for you, but our prices in place area already as cheap as we are going to go with current machines.
You can see our flexfit pricing here, which most people would say is pretty good all on its own. There used to be a shop with 300 heads here in town and he was higher than me by a good bit. He went out of business though, probably due to high price.

Man, that is cheap. I just quoted a 100 of Otto flex hats with 8K stitches on front and 4K on the back for $16 each.

we'd be at $12 for that on a flexfit, shipped, free digitize.

I will definitely keep you in mind. Right now, I'm not too busy and I have my brother here ;). I'll put him to work 8)
After purchasing all my Screen printing stuff, I was riding a bit low on money. Anything right now is welcome.

Not a fan of the NC stuff(design wide), but I love the applique on your caps. The closeup of that pleather is awesome on there. The execution of all of those is perfect.

The NC stuff is a truck club, the material is to match up with the interiors in their trucks and/or just to stand out from the normal stuff you see out there.

No joke, over double...nice.
I need to fly my embroiderer out there to learn how to do caps. Nobody has been able to get our machine to sew caps well at all.

Nope snagged a 2009 SWF from embroidery trader, has 1.8mil stitches on it, one head has never been ran even. Has the factory thread on it still it looked like. Haha. Its basically new. He wanted 20k, snagged it for 18k. Felt like that was REALLY good deal for such a new machine.

We are pretty solid at hats since that's what we do the most of.
-
Where did you get it from? There was a guy around here selling an SWF late model machine.
-
Congrats BTW.

If you need another one, let me know. I know a guy here that is on the fence about whether or not to sell his. I think he needs to, he doesn't use it much.

I'm good for right now, I hope my next one is a super production machine then I will have all covered, singles, matching, quads, and maybe like a 8 or 15 head for long runs.
-
I personally am not a huge fan of super large machines. I think it's best to get 4's or 6's and run those. That way if you have a thread break, you stop 4 heads, not 15. They can all be sewing the same design, but your output would be higher. Also since you can load 4, press start and have those started before the next 4 hit the next machine.
Just a personal preference I guess.

If you look at it like that, 3 single heads would do more work than a one 4-head.
-
I don't know about that, but 4 single heads would do more work than a 4 head. 4-6 heads heads are great size machines.

Very nice. We have 40 heads but don't due that kind of quality. Then again our clients are just mainly basic logo folks.

Really like the aluminum piece that's riveted on the hat, it looks super cool. Had a customer ask me to do something similar a long time ago, we ended up outsourcing it.
Where/how did you source or make the riveted piece?

I have a few sources, all friends. They don't really do that type of thing but slide me in on their water jet. I have one on my street even.

I will need a bigger building. LOL.
I remember thinking, no way I could fill up 8,000sqft. I have already filled up the whole inside. The warehouse is only half full of equipment, but also has 4 cars out there. So its basically full. Next I will have to buy the building and kick out the renter. 6ksqft over there. LOL.

Been into customs all my life. Had several trucks in magazines myself including one cover. Thats how we got into doing clothing for this market because there was a big hole at the time.
-
Hmmmmmmm, that 4 head looks really good.
Work is awesome as always.
I'm thinking about digging on the side of my house to make stairs and doors for easy basement access. That would allow me to purchase a 4 or a 6 head machine.
Right now, all I can take downstairs is a compact single head. A 4 head would fit perfectly on the other side of my basement (I got 1200 square feet downstairs).
-
Thanks!
If I had it to do over, I wouldn't have bought a 2 head. So I do urge you to step into a 4 or 6 head from a single. I was in a bind at the time and had limited cash flow when I made the purchase a few years ago for my 2 head. Of course today its still great machine, I call it my copy machine. A lot of customers just want 2-3-4 items. Perfect for that stuff. The 4 head can be used for bigger bulk. I like the flexibility we have with a Single, 2, and 4 head now.
-
Awesome work and nice setup, Brandt. You guys putting out all this awesome work with just 2 people?
-

Just 2 people. That's it. We do have my parents come and clean screens maybe 1-2 times a month to get us out of a bind. We dont outsource digitizing, seps, nothing. All done in house!
We work 7days a week, often 12-14hrs a day. I am hoping the new machine either allows us time off or more income to hire. I am ready to slow down.

Just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration. I have tried one yesterday with some material we use for stadium seats and looks great. will be doing more later today. But I do use our cutter the cut it. Never give me a pair of scissors.

Looks good, glad we could inspire!

From the looks of the material Brandt uses a laser will have to be the way to go, I doubt a plotter could ever cut some of that stuff no way.

Nope a plotter couldn't touch most of this stuff. Some of it is REALLY thick.

LOL.
-
Just thought I would share a recent fullback design I digitized. It is nice to get something besides the standard logos and text for a change ;) It's hard to see all the detail and texture but you can get the overall look of it from the .jpg. The original artwork had a huge basket but they wanted to simplify it so I added a pillow under the dogs
-
I would love to see a sewout of that one!!
-
We added a 4 head in November, and our second 4 head shows up today. Man are things nuts in the embroidery part of the shop. Shelly is amazing....flat out.
-
What brands? SWF? New or used?
-
I was gonna ask the same. Stayed with SWF?
Congrats.
-
SWF again, another used 4 head. SMOKIN' deal on it. Even better deal than the other one.
I know where another one is, I may buy it too. But I am running out of room lol.
-
Question on stitching.
How many layers of stitching can you go through. For example, lets say you have a background fill of a color, then you stitch in a small object over top that in the center of that large background area...and then you stitch in over top that, another item of lets say that included some detail images. Does digitizing work that way or is is stitched out around each element?
-
Dan, I try to not stitch over a fill no more than one time, to much build up will start to break your needles, so to answer your question I try to butt my embroidery as I would a screen print layer. Oh and for small areas to much thread in one spots tears holes in the garment and again cause your needles to break, I sure the other guys here can explain it better than I just did LOL.

Absolutely sick. You bastard. ;D
-
Dan stitching more than one layer over a layer is not good practice, as Daryll said it cause major issues such as puckering and birds nests. A lazy digitizer may over lap excessively instead of taking the time to correctly but elements while understanding push and pull. Knowing what will push and what will pull will guide you in where to slightly over lap or reverse choke, fairly similar to screen printing art seps.
Small lettering is usually best done on difficult weaves such as pique on a filled back ground, it gives it a better flat surface to stitch on, but you have to be careful the chance for birds nesting may increase so using the correct density and underlay is important.

Brandt,
Nice work. I have thought about doing embroidery but I have a contract guy that does all of mine for much less than it would be to have it here. What is your percentages of embroidery to screen printing? I do about 90% screen printing right now.

We embroider basically every day, we only screen print 1-2 days a week in the winter, summer is more like 3-7 days a week. Some weeks we dont screen print at all. We always embroider.

Here is the Puffing PUFF from the weekend.
Brandt, can you please wait an hour or two before posting :)
LOL, just kidding
I still need to take better close-up pic

Nice. Did you digitize that yourself?

Yes. I did a few tries. In the ned came out really nice, and I have learned a few things I thought I knew before :)

Cool. We just added embroidery as well. What fun it is going to be when we get going on it. A whole new learning curve.

You guys suck! I wish we could get people wanting stuff like that. We get the standard company logo's that are plain and boring. We try talking them into spiffing their logo's up and get turned down. I guess plain and boring is ok.

As long as you are sewing something is all that matters!
Thanks guys for the nice comments!

It's rare we do anything interesting/fun/worth sharing, so I snapped a couple pics right after these came off the machine. They're van seat covers for one of the local bands van. (drummers daughter did them for Christmas gifts)
About 7 inches across, 62000+ stitches. Took a little over an hour each on our single head SWF.

Test hat I did last night.

a simple google search yields plenty of results...for stuff like this, refer to urban dictionary

This was done on Berne Apparel jackets (Like Carhart).
Full back

This was a nice change from the normal logos. It was left chest so lots of small detail.

My first try to do Applique. Used my cutter to cut the twill and did my own digitizing.

Thats some clean work Dennis! Nice work.

Here is a job we ran today, not super detailed or anything, but I thought they turned out pretty cool.

Awesome stuff!

Here is the order of hats I'm working on now.
20K stitches on the hat

I don't get it. Awesome embroidery though...but what does it mean?

I don't get it. Awesome embroidery though...but what does it mean?
It means more money on my account :)
I do not ask unless it is something that does not stand well with my views
And yes, I did not get it too
-
Nice DK!!! what's the dimension on that cap
Darryl
-
I believe it is 5.125 wide and about 2.375 tall.
It is pretty big design for a hat.
-
whew 20k on a hat. looks awesome for that many stitches, not too dense and crinkled up anywhere! for those who dont understand, you can do a whole large jacket back design in 20k stitches sometimes if the design is right, so to cram that into a hat, great job.
-
Awesome Dennis!
We have been pretty slammed but I will throw out a few. This first one is 19K of puff.

Really nice!

I see that nobody posted much stuff in this thread for a while :)
Nothing special here as far as the excellent design or something that is tough to embroider, but I kind off like the design and the message it gives ;)
It is 11.5" tall and 11.5" wide design with 85000 stitches done on the back of a Berne jacket (Similar co Carhart). It took 2.5 hours for each jacket.
Few pics and a video

the top ones (in each pic) are the old logos. Bottom ones are ours with a few "adjustments"

I'm betting they hated the changes. ;)
Awesome job!

Thanks
Yah, they hated them so much they ordered more.
These are the first melton and leather jackets I've done in years.
Don't do too many any more with all the softshell stuff.

Nice work. What is inside the No Regrets?
Customer sent the pattern in, we also covered it in clear vinyl to protect it, so its 2 layers of fabrics. Pretty awesome looking!
Is this also how you do the faux vinyl car seat stuff?

We carry about 70-80 styles of that stuff on hand, most is not covered in clear though. Just some of the more fragile ones are. Customer can choose whatever combo they want. Some of our designs have 3 fabrics in each, so they can really make a garment stand out. Its all hand cut/applied/then machine embroidered. Truly one off item.
