Title: Tips for getting plastisol out of upholstery?
Post by: Prince Art on April 09, 2019, 11:16:31 AM
I know I'm not the only one who has done this - you've been printing, don't realize you've got a smear of ink on your clothes, then go elsewhere & sit down, and now you've just printed a chair. Anybody have a good tip for getting uncured ink out of fabric that can't be removed from the furniture?

...And in my case, the chair was quickly moved to a storage room so no one else would sit on it until it could be cleaned... and then it was forgotten about. So, this is old, partially dry but uncured ink.

I'm thinking careful blotting with 701, then shop-vac to get the moisture out. Any better ideas?

Yeah, that could be the best approach. B u t... I stopped using the gun awhile back, and currently have no cleaning fluid.  :(

I have a spot gun at the shop and at home.  Comes in handy at home, and mama isn't so unhappy.

The last straw for our company as a home based business was when my mom found ink in the dishwasher.  I am not sure which travels further, glitter or plastisol

"Shout" or any consumer spot cleaning stuff works great on un cured plastisol.

Good tip for getting it out of your jeans!

In that direction, I used to hear of folks using spray brake cleaner as a poor man's spot removing gun.

We didn't have any Shout on hand, but I decided to test this with Resolve, since it smells better than ink remover. It got some out, but I still had to finish up with 701. Admittedly, the fact that it was a thick smudge that had dried out over a few months might have affected things. Next time, though, I think I'll go straight for the ink remover as soon as the spot occurs!

And I remember from a previous post, you are an expert in the area of "where the hell did that come from?"

I have always used a little press wash on a paper towel to remove small spots of uncured plastisol inks. I do that a lot when the spot is very small or when I am out of spot cleaning fluid for my spot cleaning gun.
Whatever you might use on press I would test on some rag shirts.
