Title: Kara I-Image Ink
Post by: dirkdiggler on June 17, 2019, 08:29:16 AM
Who is using it and is it better?  Did you have to change emulsion?  What did you have to replace on your machine to use it?

We use T6. No issues so far.

Wash out the Ink tank, purge ink through machine, replace ALL filters, purge more ink.

Never heard of Kara.

T6 has been good for us for about a year. No issues.  Replaced 3 heads in a year using D2a prior to that.

KARA SERIES CTS INK
With trying to keep up with customer demands, M&R is always looking for the best possible product we can offer. M&R introduces the new KARA SERIES INKS.
Over the past 8 months, M&R’s Digital R&D team has been developing and testing this new computer to screen UV blocking fluid for the I-Image (Ricoh Print Head) family of printers.
This ink has been thoroughly tested in house and is currently used in ALL the CTS units in the M&R Print Lab Screen Room, as well as many customers in the field.
During our testing the R&D team has confirmed the following information about the KARA-01 ink:
- Dramatically improved opacity over Type-K and T6
- Better compatibility with most emulsion types
- Better compatibility in most environmental conditions
- Cleaner and more round halftone dots from highlights to shadows
- Cleaner and crisper edge definition
- Improved exposure quality leaving a higher quality stencil once rinsed out
- Improved rinse out after exposure
This new ink falls under a new name, KARA. The ink for the M&R Ricoh print head CTS systems will be found under KARA-01-1K. It is currently available only in a 1L bottle. To order, a customer just needs to say KARA-01, or search this name which will make it easier to assure the consumer gets the correct ink every time.
Any currently customers that want to switch over from their current ink to the KARA-01 ink can do so. In order for this to happen, they must contact the M&R Digital Service Team for proper instruction and required maintenance items to assure a proper flush and replacement items.
For any additional questions, please contact the M&R Digital Service Department.

I second this. I'll wait and see what happens over the next 8 to 12 months before I change. Not taking any chances.

Haha that's good. I like the play between the threads. But seriously I am going to see how it operates in the field first. We are okay with current ink. The D2 and D2A were really bad for us.

I am so tired of the look at me stuff. I think we use the t6 still?

Yeah that is what we are currently on. Not switching anytime soon as we are not having problems for the past 6 months. We changed some settings and good to go. I can see getting something different in the future as laser or wax or whatever but again any new ink / wax / technology I'll let someone else be the experiment first.

Im still using the K ink.  My machine has been running for 5 years now on it with no issues and still the original heads.  Mind you I do my maintenance as scheduled.  As soon as I see the density of the ink looking spotty and a head clean won't solve it the filters need replaced.  6 months is about average.

Still on K ink and original head  as well. Roughly 5 years of service so far. I am not messing with something that is working.

I'M sorry the K is what we are using here at Eagle. M/R recommended we don't change apparently with the right settings the results are better than the T6. Who knows but that's what we were told last month when we ordered 8 bottles.

we are also on the K ink and original heads (two head unit) since 2014

4 years and 10 months so far, no issues with the ink at all.

i hope they dont discontinue the K ink - if its not broke, dont fix it.

If history repeats it'self, they will still offer all the other brands for those that feel the same way. The have always kept K ink after changing to a new type.

And this is a prime example. When I started with them, there were people using K ink for 4-5 years prior to my getting there in 2014. They too were using the same print heads and ink. Still, there were a few peppered in that could not get their ink to work with their environment or shop habits. (but actually, it was more so that they didn't want to or could not get into a better habit of keeping there environment up to par) "typically".  Infrequent maintenance, being rough with the machine an causing head strikes etc.  Head strikes were more rare tho, but they did happen.

So typically, you had 90% of people with no issues...and 10% that did, Of that 10%, half of of them post about it and this is what you read about and assume ALL wet ink is like this...but it's not even an ink thing, but an environment and maintenance thing.  The one new ink they made to fix other issues for some people did happen to cause (more) head drying or gumming. That's the one they replaced with T6. If 10% of the customers report issues with the ink that 10% is important and they will work on a revise dink that will include those 10% into the total that have no issues. That's the goal. Perfect ink. That's why the change, but you can still keep the old one that works for you.
