Anyone know the cause of this (and the fix)?
I can?t seem to figure out the solution.

Your print head looks like it needs a physical cleaning, ink has built up on it causing it to drag ink across the film.... set the printer in the mode it would be if you are changing the ink carts and unplug leaving the print head free so you can move it by hand, take a paper towel wet it a little with windex and place it in the path of the print head, then run the print back and forth across it and that will clean the ink chunks or clog ink from underneath it. The wiper should do this but sometimes it want clean it that good if the printer is in heavy used, now that's my 2 cents and that is all it's worth ;)

That cleaning was the first thing I tried. I did two 30 minute soaks. This was printed after that. Maybe I need to do more? This printer has been in service a few years and probably prints 20-30 films per day.

I am with Darryl! It sure looks like buildup that I?ve seen several times before. Nozzle cleaning and buildup cleaning should do it.

UPDATE. So I super cleaned the printhead and wiped it down to the point I was nervous I was ruining it. All fixed now. Thanks everyone.
