Title: YAIMB - Yet Another Install Mini Blog
Post by: 1964GN on December 05, 2014, 02:48:48 PM
The time has come for our new press to arrive! Over the last few weeks we have been busy preparing.

Air and power for the new press is in.

Reclaim area reorganized.

The manual moved out of the way to make room for the existing DB
(http://www.fortymminc.com/shop-pics/4.jpg)

Things are pretty disorganized at this point but we are making progress!

Starting to prep the floor and space for the new press.

At this point we still have lighting to add and reconfigure, more banners for the walls and the floor needs paint.

More to come, stay tuned....

Thanks, it is a pretty nice set up. Things are usually much cleaner/neater than you see in the pictures. The new beast install starts Monday. I hope to have a time lapse video of the install when it's all done.

Here are a few more pics of the prep work.

Additional, strategically placed lighting for the new press is going up.

We took delivery of the press yesterday. The base was a bit of a challenge to get off the back of the trailer. The first forklift was a little light on the back end so we borrowed one from our neighbor.

We had to drag it to the back end of the trailer in order to get the forks all of the way under it.

2 flashes and misc parts. There were a couple of more pallets with print heads etc.

With all of the major prep work behind us the last task was getting the floor painted. This color was the winner.

Those are AC drops that will be positioned over the loading stations on both presses and at the end of the dryer for the catcher.

So, we ended up with a S-Roque YOU P16 XL 12/16, 1 ECO Flash and 1 EVO Flash and their PRU system. This gives us a true 12 color machine with 2 flashes and cool downs and the option of adding 2 more heads in the future if we ever find a need for them.

(the forklift color is purely coincidental, I swear)

Nice! Position the EVO flash before the ECO flash. That way you will essentially "smart pre heat" the pallets by the time they get to the ECO flash. 12/16, I'm jealous, wish I could of gone that big! Congrats!

We welded up some great shop projects and accessories with our left over pallets! Even made a "prototype" of a off press screen holder with air clamps to hold screens while they are cleared of ink and tape. Didn't turn out nearly as cool as I hoped :'(  Even made the base that holds our new LED exposure "bulb" with left over pallets!

I think these are headed for the scrap yard unless "Fearless Leader" has another idea. It's some where around $7 plus per pound right now.

Pallet Arms and micros

The base successfully off the pallet and being moved into position. Yours truly driving the forklift and out tech Buck ridding on the base.

The press in it's final position. If you look closely at the boxes on top of the press you'll see that S-Roque was kind enough to stash 4 cases of Portugal wine inside the press for us! Nice touch :-)

You will have to ask Buck about it but a little bit less than a year ago he was doing an install a couple hours north of me. He didn't know what he was in for, the temperature hit something like 25 below zero. He said he was good on installs up here in the winter for a while! :D

While Buck finishes the install we will be busy drilling the frames with the pin holders, degreasing and coating screens.

You are welcome anytime!

We ran the machine last night before we left... amazingly quite, and fast. It's like watching a robot on a car assembly line.

After we get settled in I'm going to start a new post covering our decision to choose S-Roque over other brands. Should be a great popcorn eating thread :) ... but for now we need to get to the business of printing.

The time lapse install video should be up in the next few days.

Are there going to be issues with getting long sleeve shirts over the pallet arms? On the MHM S its a bitch especial with girls cut garments... this  one of two things I really do not like about my press.

Very stoked for you and your crew... wicked looking press!

Crazy... I never had thissleeve issue with my TAS machines... BTW I think TAS has the most Rock Solid arms around with the least pallet deflection.

I own  a 12 color M&R and a 6 color Chameleon so I think I can offer a opinion. Our problem is the shirts get caught on the yellow levers on the smaller shirts. You suggested to me once when I had this conversation with you to try the triple sleeve platen. I bought 1 to see how it would work but my printers didn't like the way the shirt bunched up against the top of the platen.

I know what you own. I was just stating until you try the others not to say we are just as bad. I assure you it's worse working with a bulky arm width at the tip.

You know you can adjust the bolt on the bottom of the yellow levers so they sit flush (or close to flush) with the side of the platen when fully tightened right?  This makes catching things on them close to impossible.  I had to make that adjustment on my Kruzer as I do tons of sleeves and other small stuff like onesies.

This sentence sounds like your saying I should try a M&R press sleeve platen. That's why I mentioned I have M&R equipment. Even if I couldn't load a sleeve on a M&R I will still always buy M&R equipment.

How wide is the TAS arm in comparison... do you really know?

we would have to consider not only the width of arm but also width of pallet and the height from bottom of arm to top of pallet.. all these would affect the ease of loading long sleeve shirts.

There really isn't a issue loading sleeves, the pallets are Luke 4" x 3/4" or so, just moved the pallet out to the end of the arm and you got probably a foot before the arm starts. Plus it is tapered you would need to be printing a pretty long print before you ran into problems. Plus no levers that stick out... :P

If sleeves are a substantial part of your business I can see how loading would be a bottle neck for you. For us it's a pretty small percentage of our overall business, and being a new press for us I can't speak to the issue with first hand experience, yet. What I can tell you is that TCT's comments are exactly what we expected. One lever to swap pallets, no handles in the way of loading and 1 foot + of pallet before the arm even starts. This to me sounds more than acceptable.

Now, back to you're regularly scheduled program...

We spent a good part of day three familiarizing ourselves with the new press and we are very impressed to say the least. We printed a small 2 color job in the afternoon. The PRU and entire pin reg system worked flawlessly. It was spot on with zero micros needed on both ends of the frame. Of course, we don't expect every job to be that exact but if we are consistent on the PRU we are WAY ahead of where we were with the DB.

At the time of the purchase the YOU did not have a skip shirt feature. It turns out that they were testing that feature in Colorado and it was working as expected so, our tech received the software update from Portugal and applied the update to our machine. Nice :-)

There is no doubt that, no matter what new press we purchased, that we be just as impressed as we are now. Will we be as please in 6 months as we are now? Only time will tell, but this experience from start to this point has been light years ahead of our last major purchase.

Right now just one set of adult pallets. Currently we plan to use the DB for sleeves, necks etc and will probably leave it set up that way. Depending on how things go that could change of course.

If you misload, moving to fast and can't load at all, etc... just hit the skip button and it won't print that pallet all of the way around the press. That way you don't need to stop, move it back, fix it the start again.

Title: Re: YAIMB - Yet Another Install Mini Blog
Post by: TCT on December 11, 2014, 12:07:40 PM
Got ya! Thought it was a automatic no shirt sensor, there was mumble about that.

We have the skip like you are talking about, Chris/Parker1 it is on the home or main screen.

One thing that you guys may want to try, and I didn't like it at first but really like it now is- use the pedal as a break(you can switch how you want it set up, as a "break" or a "advance"). Well we have ours as a break and when someone is learning on that press and after that we tell them to use the pedal every time no matter what. That way it becomes a habit and you don't even think about actively doing it. Then you can basically take off any dwell from the machine and print as fast as the machine is loaded and if there is a issue grabbing a T or something and you are delayed 1 sec or so it is not a issue because you still have your foot on the break.

Just a thought, but it has worked well for us!

I don't know why we couldn't but I do see conflicting information about that in their literature. Some areas say that it is and other areas say it isn't.

No shirt detector is a no brainer. Without having to touch a thing it gives peace of mind and
never have to worry at all about screen "thrraaP"! :o

Every printer has had it happen and is like a slow motion -Nooo Ugggg--
you just know the squeegee is cementing the emulsion to the platen and there's nothing you can do but
screech in horror as the pop of death comes.  >:(

One of the worst sounds a printer can hear, and -Oh no- is the screen good any more?

**Got caught up in the drama- GREAT LOOKING SET-UP and many years of fun with that keen piece of machinery.

As promised I have created a time-lapse video of the install. This my first video creation so it's not quite as polished as many I've seen, so be nice :)
