Title: Transfer printer
Post by: mikeob on November 24, 2017, 09:30:25 AM
My business seems like it would be a good fit for the Pro8432wt from OKI.

Curious if anyone has one and what they like about it or hate about it.  Or reasons why you stayed away from it all together.

Not sure about that particular printer but all of the transfers I've received samples of didn't have a great durability after washing.  I would request a sample to test for yourself.  Good luck!

What particular types of transfer samples did you try? And, were these for darks?
Most common commercially available are plastisol or print and cut vinyl.
And, did they fade, crack, or peel?

These were printed by an Oki printer.   They were transferred to dark shirts.  We washed them inside out with cold water they lost coloring after the first wash.

Interesting. I should order some of these as well.
I am used to inkjet transfers on white fading after the first few washes, but always considered it slight.
Curious as to whether this is limited to their white toner on dark transfers, or all of the OKI laser produced transfers.
Also wonder if their papers are proprietary or if their toner will work on Neenah papers.

If they were to last 30 to 40 washes, I would consider that exceptable but I would hate to have to explain to every customer that the prints would fade fairly fast.

I was told by their rep, that they would last 25 washes

Maybe they've improved since we received our samples about a year ago.  I definitely would ask for one though.  If you get one in and do some wash test and it holds up, please let us know.  I was really hoping the one's we received would've because that would've been a much cheaper option then dtg for the one off request we get.

From what I understand about it, there is no black toner, it uses CMY to try to make black, but that falls short, which is why black was added to CMY in the printing idustry in the first place. The samples I saw definitely lacked contrast.

Is there a better machine out there that do not use inkjet technology?

Oki Pro8432wt is great for synthetics -this also depends on type of paper you are using.
