Title: Which screen coater do you use?
Post by: Maxie on June 25, 2016, 01:02:41 PM
I am presently using a screen coater from Saati, I've used a Monster Max but it got damaged.
I like the amount of emulsion the Monster Max holds, we coat up to 40 screens at a time and it's a pain refilling the coater all the time, he Saati coater stands at a angle so yo cannot really fill it.
What do use and recommend?

Monster max here. I still have 3 or 4 others, but hate using them...

the ones they cut to size then glue the big blue end caps on. Yes they sit at an angle but that is easily countered with a DIY base.

What one you use is less important than using it correctly.

You have to tilt the coater until it side caps come into contact with the mesh. Acts as a dam and creates the correct angle from the edge.

Yep, I have a few different ones, and on the Sefar and another one with the angled base, I glued four little feet to have it sit straight.

I currently use the AWT Pro Angle 2. I didn't like it at first, but then I discovered I could sit it on blocks of wood under the ends.... so I could grip it naturally with my fingers underneath & thumb on top. It feels more natural to pick it up and then put it back down that way.

I've never used the Monster Max or Saati's so I can't compare them. I do like the AWT Pro Angle 2 a lot better than Sefar's. I also have the Pro Angle 1 and don't care for it.

I think John is talking about a Sefar. I dislike their angle and used to do exactly as he described. Andy too..... My AWT sits flat on the 2X6's and my hand slips underneath easily.

But I break the rules with all of them. I don't let the caps contact the mesh. But I move much more quickly and use the sharp edge, 2 over 2. I just can't get consistency using "the dam" as they were obviously designed to for. I either press too hard on the end caps, or not hard enough. My method is COMPLETELY WEIRD and works like a charm, every time.

Should add that I coat two handed and push the coater into the mesh with substantial force

I should try that, John. I know that would mitigate my inconsistency caused by one handing...to some degree.

It might help my EOM ratio too.

I tried that but did not get a good result, I think I started with the screen too high.
How high off the floor do you have the screen.

I lean 3 statics against the wall, push the 1st one down a bit to create a ledge then place screen on there.
the two screens behind hold it from pushing into the wall and it's far enough away from the wall at the top that it won't touch when you coat the inside.

One hand holds the screen, one the coater here. Works perfectly for me, and let's me angle the screen quickly at the end of the coating stroke to eliminate the possibility of drips or beads.

I can't one hand anymore. carpal tunnel is to severe to deal with the pain.

Some times a little one, sometimes a big one, but always a blue cap for 28 years.

One handed coating technique.

I love it compared to the sefar glued caps one....
