Well today was the big day! Started putting the 10clr press together and did some CTS training! Super excited to get these units in the process!

Thanks guys! Yep I'm super excited!!!

It has been a ton of work over the past couple of weeks getting the shop ready to put these in, whole new arrangement and equipment setups, we also painted the whole shop floor as we moved stuff around. But we are implementing new processes and procedures along with the new equipment so we should see a whole lot better process soon!

I "printed" and burned 4 screens this afternoon and it was SUPER EASY, I thought it was going to be hard to learn but it's actually quite simple!

How do you like the Lawson CTS so far?
Title: Re: Been busy week or so at the shop.....

Thanks guys! We are super excited! We are hoping with these additions and our old 6clr auto we should be able to step up our game 10fold!

How do you like the Lawson CTS so far?

Well yesterday was just "training" so we haven't used it in production yet but I have seeen it in action up at Danny's shop and I like it but then again I have nothing to compare it to. I ha some troubles with it this morning but it's because I forgot a step, but after a crash course that's to be expected. I've got a few jobs that I need to print out today so we'll see how that goes, we won't know the full use of the system until the Tri-Loc shows up (hopefully today).

Enjoy these weeks, they don't come around often enough.  Nothing better than getting new equipment on the floor.

I agree Alan, in a month or so it'll just be equipment.  ;)

Here's a short video of the CTS running...

They say they are using the same inner workings as M&R... Actually said they had it first.

did you have an auto before.  I called Lawson when I was doing my research and they told me that I didn't need one and they would not even get me a quote on one.

maybe in their defense they did not want to set me up to fail, but they really did not ask any questions either to see what and how were were doing things.

I would like to know how you like it and how it improves what you were doing

That Lawson is Danny's old unit.  He wasn't given the stiff arm by Lawson.  I've talked to them and they seem more than eager to sell me a DTS, but I guess things have changed in 18 months.

that maybe.  I was surprised by the way I was blown off.  every other manufacturer was glad to talk about my needs and how their machine would ( could ) do for us at our shop.  I even had 2 reps stop by to see how it would fit and benefit us.

I don't have as much experience dealing with them as I do M&R and a few others but I'd say they weren't too pushy and they weren't acting like they didn't care much.  I've had suppliers and equipment manu's hound the crap out of me to the point where I was turned off by the non stop calling.

Correct this is Danny's old unit, but we have had zero problems with Lawson. David has been GREAT even before we actually had the machine. So far the unit has been great and so has Lawson.

Ya we have an older 6clr auto, we just needed more colors. So we added the 10clr and we will be running both!

Maybe tonight once everyones gone I'll get up on the ladder and take a shot of the shop.

Thanks guys! Once I get some more time and maybe bring in my good camera I'll take some decent overall shop pics.

Nick, comments on the Shurloc squeegee cleaner? Price tag is around $400 I believe.

We haven't used it yet, still need chemical. But we saw it in action up at Danny's shop and thought it was a great idea. It runs just under $600 for the unit and then the "lid/holder" is around $100, but we figured we spend well over that a year on the washout tank with the chemical so this should be cheaper (and easier) in the long run.

awesome..only negative is that spray adhesive on the press....

I know I'm trying to convince them to switch to a waterbased but he's not quite there yet. As most of you know I have been doing a TON of research and testing of products over the past few years but that was at the other shop so I now have to show my new boss all that research so it's like I'm starting over.

Nick,

Nice pics of the shop, great looking rolling production tables  ;D

Thanks, function not form.  ;) We actually have a pile of lumber in the corner that I am going to build a few more so we have "extras".

Great job Mr Kitson but why are you not utilizing the space under the table?  say for pallet tape? sleeve boards?  something to maximize space?

just a thought.  we built carts like that but made three shelves under for storage for embroidery backing ( because it is wrapped ) and other things that really did not have a place.

We have mobile pallet racks, squeegee carts, ink carts, etc as well as custom built work stations for any and all accessories strategicallly placed by all presses. Every press has its own set of tools.
Reduces interruptive downtime. Nice looking shop BTW

We have very similar carts with 2 shelves underneath. Coroplast makes for a great top surface too and you can always wipe it down to get ink, adhesive or what-have-you off of it.

Title: Re: Been busy week or so at the shop.....
Post by: Inkworks on December 25, 2013, 03:03:32 PM
It was a matter of having the table height at a comfortable working level and still having room for the bottom shelf to fit 14 adult platens stored on edge, which we'll build slots for in the next few months. The top shelf fits 14 sleeve platens. If the wheels had been under the 2x4 frame it would have been too high. The caddy on the side is perfect for some spray cans, pens, Sharpies, scissors, Exacto knife, block out pen and a coffee   :P the hangers for screen tape and measuring tape complete the set-up, but I still need to put a scotch tape dispenser on it to help blow my ROI all to hell.

And for those keeping track, the pinkish wood is from the crate the Auto showed up in  ;D

We might even throw a coat of paint on it in our slow time, Jan/Feb. I'm really looking forward to doing all the little projects done we've been putting off for the past year and will be sure to post some pics of anything interesting.

Ok so does anyone know how to disable the 3 beeps that happen when starting the press?? It gets kind of annoying when you stop it to fix something or add ink and then start it back up again and it beeps.....

i like the beeps - alerts the persons working around the press that its going to cycle.

a while back we hired someone that had worked at a different shop with different presses - our anatols beep - he asked if it was going to back up (like a truck).  our procedure when we are about to cycle one of the gauntlets is to say "clear" to alert others that the press is going to cycle...  his asked if we were using a defibrillator...

Post by: TCT on December 30, 2013, 11:29:22 AM
It is annoying as all heck at the beginning but you get used to it. When they are not beeping then you notice it right away. I know on both our presses the only way to "turn them off" is to disconnect and cap the wire going to the speaker. On the anatol you are able to shorten the beep lengths in the menu but not disable it completely. I am no help on the M&R sorry. Doesn't your other press have a beep? Guess I kinda assumed all of them had it.

To dull the beep you can also fold a shirt scrap over a bunch of times and tape it to the speaker, doesn't look pretty but it dulls the sound out.

Geez, don't try to disable a safety system. These machine can kill or maim. They are there for a reason...YOUR safety and anyone around.

Send me your serial number and I will tell you how to adjust the beeper sound. I strongly suggest you not disable the beeper or obstruct it. We put it there for a very good reason!!!
