Hi, our very old plotter has maxed out on the cutting force, does anyone have any experience opening one up and making the adjustment (to calibrate it so as to return to normal functioning)?

sounds like a dull blade. force should never need adjustment after factory settings.

Hey Homer, fairly new blade, and cuts real well if used by hand (in the holder of course). The force needed has been creeping up of late, and can't increase it anymore, plus it's not cutting well, too many things pulling up when weeding. I think it's age, as we bought it in '93 or'94. Beacon Graphics tech help suggested that maybe the solenoid that sends the blade down could be worn, or getting faulty voltage from a board, and parts for something that old will be sparse... damn, might have to bite the bullet and get another, I just want to make sure it lasts this time ;D

one other thing to check is the cutting strip under the blade that runs along the length of the machine, it's like a Teflon material. Depending on that machine, you can rotate that 90 degrees and get a new cutting surface. . .or buy a new plotter haha. . .

We replaced that strip about 6 months ago, I'm thinking new plotter damn it. Gx24, or CE5000-60, unless someone else has some favorites in the 24" w/optic sensor category... a tech told me that a solenoid controls that, and getting a part would be pretty tough. I'll open it up at some point when I get a bit of time. Thanks

We had a 5000, it's ok for light use, the optics suck. . .We just bought a 64" 8000 about a month ago. But we do wraps and tons of printed vinyl, not too sure you need to go balls to the wall on a plotter though. I hear the roland gx 24 is pretty dependable.
