For those who use Corel and don't know about this tool, give it a whirl sometime. It can be a real life-saver.
I have 3 colour fire-evacuation plans to print on plaques for the back of hotel room doors. 4-story hotel means 4 different plaques. The floorplan maps came customer supplied as .pdf's that obviously came from Cad-Cam. Each floor plan was vectors with mostly .001" wide lines in G:0 color. Neither of those was going to works for us. Each floorplan was >5000 objects. Using the find and replace utility I was able to do all 4 at once, changing underwidth line weights up to .010" so the can be screenprinted without too much trouble with the poxy ink required, and changing the color from G:0 - C:0, M:0, Y:0 K:100 so we can output film seps. properly.
That was a total of 20720 objects I didn't have to try and touch individually.
Yes we are charging for our time of-course, and normally I would have tried to get a better file from the customer, but this is one of our best customers and they are in a bind as they need these plaques to open their newest hotel.

I use that tool regularly for changing customer supplied art to spot colors. It also can be useful to find those few objects that look like, but are not the same color before finding them missing on the film!

I assume you're talking about the Oberon Color Replacer macro? If so, yes, nice tool.

Though the Oberon Macro is fine, I'm sure, we're talking about the tool included in the Edit drop down.

Do you/have you seen any tutorial on it? I have tried several times using it and have failed every time. Always wanted it to work, but never good. I do use simple seps for changing colors though and like that

I've just felt my way through it. Do you have a specific task screw-up that you can describe well enough for others to duplicate?
I believe that after you choose Find or Replace, the wizard talks you through the steps.

the find and replace tool is slower than the oberon macro. I had a debate with a Corel programmer about it. He said the tool is just fine, I said, Yeah, if you like making a ton of extra mouse clicks.
For color changing Oberon can't be beat.
That being said, I would check into simple seps from Tom at advanced artist. In there is a macro to convert everything to pantone. You can then size down how many colors you want it to be. It takes some getting used to, but it's an awesome tool. It's also really great for underbases.

I have a saved search that searches all objects for outlines not set to scale. I then have a button on the menu bar that performs the most recent search. This way any document I open i only have to click this button and it will find all outlines not set to scale I then just have to change them to scale. It is a huge time saver, in the past i had to go through outlines individually and set them individually before I could scale the graphic.

Mike, did you make those buttons? I need to make a macro that drops my custom reg marks into my template...not too sure how to do it.
I use simple seps for color too, works very well...

2 things:
1. Though this started as a simple Tip, it really has grown and is so CorelDRAW oriented, I have moved this to the Raster and Vector Graphics Software section.
2. As for the Oberon Color Replacer, has this ever been updated to work on 64 bit X6? Last I heard, though not listed, it did work on X6 32 bit.

I found a version that works on 64 bit. Don't remember where or how.
I think it's actually better than the original. Same install method - drop in DRAW/GMS folder

That's the ticket!

Sorry Homie I just seen this. I will post in a bit how to create and place a button for a macro.
-
Homer are you looking how to create and place a button for a macro? Or how to actually create a macro?
You can make a simple macro with the record button but thats limited. A real macro is written with the macro editor and is beyond me.
Once you have a macro you want and installed it is easy to make a button for it, I can explain if you need to know how.
-
thanks Mike - I can make the button, I guess I'm looking to make a macro. what I want to do is hit a button and have my reg marks drop on my page. I'm sure it's more complicated than I can do. I tried the record thing and failed miserably. haha
-
Take a peek in corels Visual Basic editor and look at some of the macros. It is very complicated if your not used to this type of programming. The best i could ever do was tweak existing macros. As for recording it is extremely limited really. A proper macro has to be written.
Go to this link http://forum.oberonplace.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21 (http://forum.oberonplace.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21) put in a request for a macro and trust me the nerds there jump over each other to write the macro for you.

Nice! never knew that place existed...thanks Mike!

That's where the cool 64 bit Color Replacer linked by screenxpress came from as well.
btw, this discussion (at least the original one) sparked an idea in my head that prompted me to ask this question as a new thread:
