Title: Just hit the dock!
Post by: DannyGruninger on April 01, 2014, 03:18:23 PM
It's christmas around here again....... M&R I Image STE and an M&R Uni Kote auto coater just hit the doc...... Tech will be in next week to get the i image calibrated but we should be getting the coater up and running by tomorrow. I'll come back with a full report on everything within the next few weeks as I'm sure many folks want to hear the real differences between the lawson dts and the m&r dts since they are night and day different.

Your entire world will change. We have had ours up and running for 3 months and things changed (and are moving) so fast we can't measure it!!

Jealous.

Did we just become best friends?

Now one person can be coating, imaging, and exposing all at the same time. We're doing close to 200 screens a day with similar set up and not breaking a sweat.

Really nice!
But Danny G's prints can't get any better.
Just faster I guess. :)

Congrats Danny!   I wish it were me installing it. We could hang in the evenings. Well, maybe not. I'm always so dead tired by night time. LOL. I'm in Wisconsin this week and  I'll be in Pittsburgh next week so, the Installer will not be me sadly.

I know I may be biased, but these really are awesome tools/machines.  They do it fast and efficiently with some increased quality going DTS. How can you beat that?  Standard 55lpi quality is super fast, but then if you want to go the full monty and do 65-75-lpi, and hold fine detail, you have that option but it takes your Tech to provide you with that additional recipe for the print mode. So if you want that, tell them. Let them know you want an option to print a little slower (as needed) so you can produce super fine detail dots of 65-75lpi for specific jobs.  After it's set up, all your screen guy needs to do is manually choose the other setup.

Another tip is that (to save screen space and setup options and efficiency, use just one or two LPI settings like 45 and 55 (for most shops).  Then, if for any reason you need lower line screens for some low mesh, like 20lpi for a graphic look on 110 mesh,  you can do that 20lpi art in photoshop using (grayscale/bitmap convert to halftone) and send that to the STE and still rip it at the standard 55 lpi setup. Your graphic look on the 110 mesh will still come out at 20lpi.  Thisis jsut another way to handle it or to decrease the number of settings in the list.

Any line screen can be set up for you in this STE, but it then creates a longer list..and especially if you have multiple screen sizes, then X that group of screens by a HI speed and also a LOW speed.

It's really very versatile. I know you'l like to get in and really know the machine and all it's options. Don't let that Tech out till they give you all they got. LOL.

We've been running balls to the wall since before, during and after the install. I want some time to play with ours. We are set up to do 65 lpi and it does...no problem. I want to spend some time really dialing in my exposures. We got them where we need them, but I know we can get even tighter. Timing wasn't the greatest for install, as we were well in to busy season. Greg did a fantastic job with us. Extremely knowledgeable and very patient with the biggest computer idiot in the world....me. I know I can get more out of the machine, but what I'm getting now is wonderful. We even changed our screen room set up to become more efficient yet. Even though we were already CTS, we started thinking a little deeper with this install. More streamlined, fewer steps, higher throughput. Enjoy , Danny. And Dan, you're spittin' distance from our shop if you're in WI.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated. Dan, I know I wish you were rolling out here to do the install! I had thought it might be a bit too far west for you to come out though lol.... I'll def make sure to pass on the info you gave me to whoever the tech will be doing the install....... Just fired up the Uni-Kote for the first time and we just blew through 40 screens in a matter of minutes, this thing is going to be golden here. No more seeing our screen guy kill his back day in and day out, so for that alone I'm extremely thankful. Quality of life just got a whole lot better around here because of the uni kote. It was easy to use, didn't spill a drop of emulsion and the screens look really great. M&R killed it with this little machine as it barely takes up any space as well...... Couldn't be happier with it right now! I'll try to do a video once we can get caught up with all our work right now.

Plus ANYONE can coat a screen and it will be exactly like every other one. Consistency!! Improved processes and quality.

Just kidding man lol.

Emulsion coating is the most back killing of all the things we do. I'd consider an auto-coater for just that reason.

The stencil is what holds the image shape, dictates the image's resolution, meters the ink transfer delivery on the squeegee side and contributes to the speed that the squeegee can deliver the ink into the mesh opening based on flatness.. It definitely has a heavy responsibility..

The person responsible for making it repeatedly perfom from screen to screen, hour by hour, day to day, also has a heavy responsibility.. He has to be consistent no matter the conditions- happy, hungry, cold, argument with the spouse, late car payments.. Definitely with a human touch.. I never did get the led exposure unit excitement over an auto coater.

Speed should be focused on actual on press performance and managing the time to get pre press to be at optimal efficiency, is preferable..

You got jokes.. But I do subscribe to his philosophy though.. Whether I'm home remodeling, building web apps, gardening, making beats or even breeding tropical fish.. I apply the exact same practice..
