Do I need to flush all lines on the Epson 4880 when changing to a different brand of black dye ink? Feels like a waste of ink. Or should I expect clogging of the print head if we do not purge the system completely of the old ink before switching to the new brand we are going to use in the future?

My understanding is that if you're sticking with the same type of ink Dye to dye or pigment to pigment, you should not need to flush and should not have a clogging problem.
then again maybe somebody with your specific printer will contradict me

I have an epson 7700 and as soon as my all black cartridges were pretty close to empty, I just switched to the cobra inks and didn't perform a flushing. I never had a problem. I can't say that the case would be the same for the 4880 but I can't think of any difference in the two that would cause a problem.
