Title: Attaching patches to caps
Post by: oktexan on April 29, 2014, 03:43:38 PM
Hi All,

I have a customer that wants embroidered patches they had made attached to some caps.  The patches do not have adhesive on them.  What do you suggest I use? I don't have anyone that can sew them on, so I was wondering what to use to heat press them on.  I've seen several fabric glues & fabric bond but didn't know which would be the best.

Thanks,
K'Lynn

Check with stahls they may have something you might can work with

Contact this company, I bought a heat set adhesive there some years ago worked great. I can't seem to find it on the web site at the moment but just call them.

Hot glue gun and a warm hat press.  We do this all the time.  Takes a couple to find out how far in from the merrowed edge to run the outside bead on the back of the patch.
We have a local concrete company and a band that do this every couple months.
Hat press set to about 150°-200°.  All the press is being used for is to mold & hold in place so the glue has time to set.  15-20 seconds, light pressure.
Glue is regular fabric/craft glue for glue guns from WallyWorld.

I would also suggest that you suggest that your client order them with the adhesive already on them next time.
That's how I see the ones that are brought to me.

Thanks everyone!  I called Stadri & they suggested a glue called Thread in a Bottle.  Stahl's suggested their Thermo adhesive.  I'll give the glue gun a try since I have that already on hand.

And Frog, you know how it is with customers!  This customer had these patches lying around for a couple of years & never did anything with them.  And I'm a sucker for trying to help people out!  Sometime it makes me wonder why I do these things!  LOL

Once again thanks!

There is a powder you can sprinkle on....Then you cure it....Then you heat press the crests to apply.....Might be a similar powder as what is used on some plastisol transfers...

It is. We sprinkle it on, partial cure with heat gun, finish them of on the heat press.

Vestamelt, from Germany, have no idea where to find it however, great transfer adhesive as well to dust onto a wet backing plate.  Glue gun seems the easiest at this point.
