Title: WaterBase Tac sprayer?
Post by: inkbrigade on August 15, 2011, 12:21:11 PM
We have the roll tac glue whatever it's called to roll on and sticky our platens. Seems i've seen some kind of gun applicator for it before.. Almost like a spot cleaning gun that you put the tac in and can spray your platens. Ring any bells for anyone?

I've seen those, and I've also seen Killer Johnny's $7 Harbor Freight type touch-up paint sprayer.

We beta tested M&Rs version. It was automated and you could control the spray band and frequency.
It was a ginormous mess. I'm pretty sure they don't make these any more. Personally I don't care for airborne adhesives around moving parts but that's me. We card it on while others use paint rollers.

I agree with Tony. I dont want anything landing on the moving parts of my press. That stuff attracts dust and gums up seals when it lands on the shafts of stroke cylinders. That is why we just card it on too.

I use a roller, carding it seemed to be a PITA.

We use a squeeze bottle and a 3M vinyl card. Works great. Put on a thin bead and spread it evenly. I feel like the rollers would lay down too thick of a coat, no?

the tekmar tb500 sprayer works excellent without getting tack all over your press. seriously the mist is so fine you cant even see it come out of the gun. if you set it so you see it coming out your using way to much. i personally card it on at the present time but one of these sprayers will be a upcoming purchase.. they really work nice..

We did the roller/card thing for a few years, now we use these http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200310925_200310925 (http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200310925_200310925)

One on each press on a tool positioner http://www.mcmaster.com/#6739A41 (http://www.mcmaster.com/#6739A41)

Reach up, lower, spray, return.  We like this set up.  We have to clean the guns every few months, and keep the presses clean, but IMO it's easier and faster.

409 degreaser concentrate breaks down tekmar tb-10, (WB gun version adhesive) like a champ, and makes our presses look brand new.

Admiral Thanks for the PM.

"First of all this was supposed to be sent to squeegee but he isn't able to receive pm's or his account is gone maybe.  From this thread:
http://www.theshirtboard.com/index.php/topic,1187.msg11436.html#msg11436 (http://www.theshirtboard.com/index.php/topic,1187.msg11436.html#msg11436)

I was wondering if you could help me make our tac sprayer work better.  We went with the same gun as squeegee in his post, from Northern Tool and I am having issues trying to get it to spray a fine invisible mist like the tekmar system does.  I got it working but it's small droplets and requires wiping the nozzle every hour or more to keep it going.  I put on the 1.4mm nozzle, have only 10psi going into the gun and the gun on the lowest setting for this to work.  Did you get a different nozzle for it? What settings do you use?

I got it going very slightly better with 20psi now but it's still small dots of spray not a fine mist...

Thanks,
Kenny"

Kenny, I thin my glue 25% water to 75% glue and push it at 40 or 50 psi.
Not sure for the pressure for a gravity feed gun.

This is the gun I use.

If that does not work let me know.

Johnny

Switched from carding to the disposable screen scrubbers. Tried everything else and this works best for us. Less waste and spillover and better coverage. Uusally can go around 3 wks before re-applying.

Rick also try two applictions WOD. Lasts longer and we use old school brown broom bristle brushes for best lint removal. In fleece season now but will return to this in March/April. Still doing the Jamie Marx stuff?

Alright, going to run water through the gun and then a diluted spray and hopefully it won't clog and will spray a nice mist

I like the 4" foam rollers but using a scrubby pad sounds like something I'm going to try this week, neat idea.

I can't imagine you won't regret it. Best coverage and no overspill. We use mustard bottles to dispence and vigorusly scrub in a rotary fashion. Rinse the scrubby right away and it will last indefinitely. We've been using this tac for over 20 ys......it was originally designed for the dreaded belt printers.

Tony, I am totally missing how you apply this stuff, you use a scrubby pad to apply it?  Like one of the ones you would use on a screen?

I feel dense this morning.

Thats it Brad. I'm telling you it's the best method we've tried. Use two people and it takes just minutes and lasts for weeks

Tony - do you dilute the tack at all or just use it straight?  Which tack?

I'd like to give this a try...

Thanks,

Dave

I don't dilute it and again use two coats wet on dry. Can be a little over tacky at first but that only lasts a couple of rounds. The press ops dig it.

I now use tony's method, but I dilute it 50/50.  I always hit it with 2 coats on fresh tape as well, 1 coat soaks in too much.

Hey, this is late.  I just applied tack yesterday.   >:(

I remember seeing someone post about keeping a roller in a sealed bucket with a little water, probably could do that with a scrubby to cut down on waste--but it could be in a much smaller container.

Neat hint Tony, thanks.
