Ok, we keep running into this problem where we cannot build a proper magenta color. We really love the sericol SMS magenta color, but as i've stated in previous posts, the water constantly separates from this ink, making into a gak or slime like substance.
We've tried using the CCI pigment mix system to match it, and without the activator in, the ink seems to match perfectly. Once the activator is in (4%), the colors comes out muted, and looks nothing like the magenta we need.
Any tips? Anyone familiar with this color? We also have matsui pigments if anyone can give us some leads on building it with that!

it's not the best pic but here is what we are dealing with

CCI D-Flo Magenta straight. 3% activator.

What % of pigment are you using? Most of the time the "muted color" can be fixed with upping the pigment load or lowering the agent %. With CCI if you use more than 10 percent pigment I like to add some of their retarder. It helps with the pigment chunking up or drying in the screen.

I've found good success bumping up the pigment on muted colors as well, although magenta is definitely a tough color in general when it comes to discharge. With certain colors like magenta and cyan, I've found bumping up the pigment makes them richer, but also a bit darker, leading to less "pop". On the other hand, I've achieved almost neon colors when it comes to greens and oranges.
I have plenty of magenta formulas I've created using the Matsui PC system, but nothing that pops enough to get where you are looking for. I'm really looking forward to getting some samples of the D-Flo series mentioned above, as it may be the solution to this problem.
And one other thing.. Never trust the mixed ink color when it comes to discharge, as very often it will turn out completely different on the other side of the dryer. We mix batches of 100g for testing until we hit the color we're looking for.

Acivate no more than 3%. Also keep the ink cool before you use it, the heat actually speeds up that process that your seeing

we noticed the heat was a big part of it, but we really had no way to avoid it. We went with the d-flo magenta and that seemed to work a lot better!
