Title: is anyone running their production floor on tablets?
Post by: ericheartsu on July 18, 2014, 10:52:11 AM
This is something i'd really like to be able to do, but i was wondering if any shops are doing this currently? I think it would be really helpful for employees to have tasks of what to do, and be able to look up any and all job info

We do but not in the way you think.

our entire 'system' is web based so all we're doing is using a browser to access our production que.

The heading here made me chuckle a bit, as I can remember more than one production facility, (and auto customizers, and motorcycle shops ) whose workers ran on "tablets". LOL!

we have been using an ipad and dropbox..

IN the shared dropbox i have a folder with that days date in it and then just drop the mockup in with all the info and invoice number, then there is a physical paper job sheet with sizes and what not on it.

I like having the mock in there. this way they can see the art clearly and double check everything..

it has worked awesome!

from the ground up 15 years ago.

two full time programmers on the payroll right now as we design version 2.0

Y'all should form a sub-co. and sell that program to other shops!  We'll ultimately have to go this route.

We use a combo of google docs (file storage, detailed press sheets) and printavo (sort of a shell program that interfaces nicely with our clients and does very basic scheduling), both web based of course so any browser accesses everything.  I'm going to place tablet at the back and front of the dryer soon but it's really just a replacement of all the paper copies of orders and a means to keep everyone from marching back and forth to the nearest computer all day.

An actual android specific interface to a web based app would be the ideal but most web apps view well on tablets.  I did build our google drive press sheets to be optimal on tablets but google, in their infinite wisdom, removed the data validation in cells from the android version of Sheets so they view very well but are a pain to adjust v. using it in a browser.
