sense I have been to the other place, I never thought it would be that tuff, it feels just like when I quit smoking...wtf! Sad that I miss that place like that.
-
I wish I could quit smoking.
-
step one is to remove your bookmark (or your cigarettes depending on which habit you're working on)
A common complication with quitting smoking is when those around you are doing it, and you see and smell what you crave. With forums, it's often when others link you or copy and paste from the place that you're trying to avoid. Constantly bringing it up or seeing it brought up doesn't help the attempted withdrawal either.

Been about 3 weeks. That last exchange that involved dipsh!t did it for me. It's kind of difficult to comprehend the logic of going into business with someone like asdf, even tangentially, knowing his predilection for drama and controversy, even at the expense of his business reputation. There's something wrong with the guy.

I was speaking to someone who knows him very well a couple days ago and he told me of an incident that happened a few years ago. He said Barnes said to him that a certain trucking company had trusted him with credit and they were burned by Barnes. Barnes told him it was their fault for gambling he would pay so it was their fault for getting burned by him. That said enough for him about Barnes and says it all when I think about it!

I actually do not miss it at all. Absolutely nothing usefull there.

I don't miss it either and don't understand why everyone keeps talking on this subject.
I'd like to see getting back to more technical discussion because we all learn things and I find it far more rewarding to read.
Where did all the industry guru guys go?

Rich, I know most peoples hate for the man and I have not been around long enough to know the whole story. From most of the posts I see from you they are concerning him and not contributing to the forums in a positive way. I am not trying to get you upset but I think someone that has been in this industry for so long would have more to contribute to the forums. Dont take this wrong as you have reached out and tried to help me and I appreciate that, I just could not fulfill my end of expenses. And by the way the person that everyone hates actually advised me to talk to you as the machines he is trying to sell is out of the ballpark range in price for me and thought your company would be a better fit for me. Again dont take it wrong, I just think you waste alot of time contributing to posts that involve him.

They all left long time ago and then left here after Bill wasn't allowed in
-
Definitely was not referring to Bill Hood.
-
Two specifically said that they for the most part avoid posting on forums in general to avoid controversy and industry politics.

How 'bout those Vikings?
-
When I lived in MN, the vikings were called the tampons..because they only had one string, and only good for 1 period. Gross.

LOL. I've never heard that one before and I'm a Vikings fan since Fran Tarkenton.
This should be it's own thread: favorite "slam" team name :)

Sure it's well more than two. Once you get published and or move into the 'guru' status, you lose your posting ability to the masses who take your correct fact based info, then dissect it and inject their theory into it based solely on why they don't do it that way and why this way works for them.
Have that done to a few of your fact based posts and replies and soon you just stop posting.
-
To be fair and balanced on your observation, there is a "guru" or two out there that can be just as contradictory and argumentative, sometimes even confrontational and belittling.
It's not always about status, as for newbie, experienced know-a-lot, or professional consultant alike, personality traits, quirks and defects may shine though no matter. For the professional consultants, it's a tightrope act of wanting exposure but not really being open to debate, with, often, even other consultants. Not good for business.
In the end, it is what it is. Fortunately, there are many forums, each a different flavor, from which to glean information.

Well said Andy. I had a conversation with a well known consultant (over drinks, believe it or not) and posting on boards came up. He expressed that he very much wanted to contribute, but a few things kept him from doing so. He was curious how I would handle it were I in his shoes. His first concern was the the likelihood of people disagreeing and starting disruptive and unproductive posts. Now we all know that would never happen. His other concern, as crazy as it may be, is that he is a consultant and makes a living giving advice and sharing new techniques, etc. Should he hurt his potential income by sharing with all the members, not to mention lurkers, information he saves to use in his business? Tough choices. Fortunately I didn't have to give him all of my opinions, I just ordered another round! (Honestly, I suggested a PM might be appropriate if he was compelled to answer someone)
-
That is a tough one, I know I hold back a little, but I will drop a private PM to somebody rather than blabber all of my secrets out on a public forum. I know it sounds selfish, but just like a consultant, there are things I do that make me money or niche markets I work in that I wouldn't want everybody else working in as well.
Like I said, I do send private PM's to people that might need some help with something.

Sounds about right to me, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free
