I am about to print onto 100% polyester for the first time...white and metallic gold ..the white is a polywhite ink so I have that area addressed....but for the metallic gold ink..will it require a polywhite underbase? Or can i just print the metallic ink right onto the polyester with no issues?

Both, depending on what you like. With no UB it may be a little duller but a better hand. For superbest hand I have WB metallics that are awesome. We use them a lot for a major fitness group and they love it as it compliments discharge very well. Just got an e-mail from one of the buyers at the convention show store that opened this am and they are blowing through them. Your choice.

never printed discharge yet....and i dont think im ready to either.....i dont use an underbase for metallic gold when i print them on 100% cotton so based on your post I wont use an underbase on the 100% polyester

We haven't had to underbase metallics for other materials, but I can't exactly say on the 100% poly. Get a couple extra and test, not to mention that you can trust Tony on these things as a rule. But a test is good because you want to be sure it works with your particular equipment.

I've never underbased my metallics. Even on black 100% poly, 1 hit of metallic silver has been plenty of opacity.

I was under the impression that you could not discharge poly. Did I miss something?

I was a little confused by that reply as well...
I will say if it is the super smooth poly you shouldn't need an underbase as the ink will print super nicely and sit on top of the fabric.

I believe Tony was talking about using the waterbase metallics along with discharge on cotton shirts, as it looks better and has a much softer hand than plastisol metallics... No, you can't discharge poly...

But you can print WB metallic and shimmers on poly. BTW don't get me started on metallic vs shimmers. Most people incorrectly interchange the two.
