Title: Multi color plastisol and foil
Post by: ericheartsu on November 10, 2014, 02:29:00 PM
Hi All! Hope everyone had a nice weekend! We just got asked to do a job that has a multi color plastisol print, as well as a foil color interwoven. If I recall, there is an additive we can use in the plastisol that doesn't get foil, so that the foil doesn't adhere.

Is this correct? Is there any other tricks we should try when doing this job?

thanks!

Besides using waterbased ink where you want no foil, there is indeed, an additive to allow plastisol to resist foil as well.
International Coatings hes this, and I bet that other ink companies have something similar.

Careful with cure temps using the additive, I think that if overcured the foil resist will not work. Whichever resist you choose I would advise you contact the ink company tech rep to make sure you use it correctly.

foil resist additive

I actually printed it on top of the art we didn't want foil to adhere to, well that's what we did to get it to work that is.  I supposed you could probably under cure since the foil process will cure the ink the rest of the way, this way the additive in the ink might work.

It didn't really for me so we will only do water based where we don't want foil then the adhesive where we do.  Works much better for us.

I tried one of the foil resist additives a while ago.  It did not work terribly well honestly...

well alright, we will give WB a try. I'm just a little worried as some of these are weirdo poly/burnout tees!

We've COMPLETELY given up plastisol foil resist. Maybe I'm just an ink-tard but WB and discharge works every time in these jobs. We've eaten some foil resist jobs where the ink failed with repeated laundering. I'm done trying.

Good decision.
