Title: moved my shop and heres a pic of the darkroom project

Yeah its a box big deal... but another local printer gave me the idea for the screen rack so I'm passing the idea forward... Now if I can figure out the best way to get some airflow to lessen my drying time.

Can you drill a couple of holes in the side of the pink triangle in the lower left of the picture to help with the air flow?

But seriosuly, Roger Jennings has a nice video for a home made box:

Apparently less than you. You have two forums on which you play, and btw, I'd still like to see Shawn's pic

woop der it is...

You really do not need a 3 sided rack just a nice corner , shelf in the back and on one side.

Yep, dere it is now.

Okay, you probably don't have enough room for a dehumidifier, but how about a filtered fan near the top and a black cloth covered exhaust port on the opposite side near the bottom.

Used to be an article about drying cabinets. Hey Douglas, do you have a copy of yours and John's?

I think the motivating factor behind the move was really a need for a Jam Room, lol.

Now you sound like my wife haha , yeah it's true... 75% for the band space 25% because I want  to add sticker and flatstock printing.

My drums sound amazing on those wood floors in a big open space.

Wasn't much of a move just from one room to another in the same building. 40.00 more for 300 more square footage plus a heater... no brainer.

Well, I have no problems with hobbies, but it's best to separate the 2.  If it's there, it will be a distraction.  You'd be better off using that time to sell, sell, sell.

Other than that, I love the new space and the darkroom project is looking good.

nicely done Shawn - you wouldn't happen to know anyone that wants a Mesa Triple Rectifier? I'm looking to sell it. . .

put a dehumidifier in that hog too, attach a side box to it or something, I am finding how important that is with the weather we have up here.

Post by: mk162 on September 02, 2011, 08:13:17 AM
With the dehumidifier, you can either run a hose to the outside, or do what I did and use an HVAC condensation pump and pump it up to the other HVAC drain lines that run overhead(or something else to get it out of the building without emptying buckets all the time.

The one guitar I keep in my office is like the siren's song... but I still hardly ever play it. Always too much to do.

I am drooling a little, but i have a hand wired Bedrock, that is without the doubt the best amp I've ever had. Beats my 65 Deluxe Reverb for tone, and is as loud as my late 60's Marshall Plexi 100 watt (full stack of course w/vintage Celestions). But one can't have too many amps or guitars... I'm in a soul/blues band now, stacks don't fit in.

It's probably me, but why do so many "cutes" have to have nose, eyebrow, or lip piercings?

I'm probably too old to appreciate it.

Now I might see the up side to tongue studs  ;)

I was at Walgreens Pharmacy last night. The Pharmacist had a bull nose ring.  I thought, 5-10 years ago, they would have NOT hired that person. Now it's common place.

I like a good artistic tattoo (in a well placed location). One that is well done.  The cheap things done by armatures at home are a mistake in my opinion.
The poor locations that I think are mistakes are areas like oh,,, your forehead, neck, face, etc.

I completely agree with you on what kind of bizarre jewelry you find behind the counters these days.  Walgreens is pretty common.

On Tats, I've grown a lot more tolerant these days -

My Marine son got some on the upper arms when he went in.  They are not visible with short sleeve shirts.

However, my middle son went a little heavier -

http://www.myspace.com/dinealone (http://www.myspace.com/dinealone)

He's the one with the sunglasses in the group pic and the one with the guitar scrolling down.  They were not cheap and he wears long sleeves at work but muscle shirts when casual.  I actually find them attractive and even at my age have thought about getting one of my deceased son's image.

I don't especially like tattoos, but do not control my wife who sports a couple. I take the package as a whole.
(now she can't bitch as much when I look at an unadorned calve of another, lol!)
Most, who tolerate or like tattoos,  find hers pretty cool. This one is a pic of a wonderful dog which passed away way too early. She designed, with my technical help, and we then fine tuned as per the Tat artist's's needs.
Oh, and Wayne, I get a malware warning on the Facebook page about content from valentonemedia.

Andy, I'm running Kaspersky, pretty aggressive virus protection and I do not get a warning.  Hmmm, dunno.

Son said Vanentonemedia was the people that created that page for content.

That was a mypace link.  How did you get to Facebook?

What virus software are you running?  Free stuff?

Andy,
Even though the band is not real active these days, my son removed the formatting from that site.

Can you hit it a gain and see if the malware warning goes away and post the answer?

Tks.

It's fine now.

It probably did say myspace, but the warning took the page's place almost immediately.

And yes, I get lots of false positives through the very (over)protective Norton I'm playing with, but, many of the issues, I am finding, were interactions with Firefox. With Chrome, it has been pretty smooth sailing.

The next relevant post should be yours, showing how you added filtered airflow and/or a dehumidifier.

Shawn, you can get some really good fans at grainger....

That thing can move some air and it's 115v, so no special circuit, and it's also under 2 amps.

They have one that is about $70 more with nearly double the CFM.

I plan on picking up a dehumidifier, adding a drain tube hole and adding a vent to one of the walls. Do I still need fans? I'm assuming the dehumidifier will also help keep the dust out of the air.

I think a dehumidifier will be enough, they have fans in them and all you need is a very gentle exchange of air.  The more you move air about the more yer defeating the purpose of getting out of a filtered hot air/fan setup as the airflow is just going to help deposit contaminants on the screens.

I would just run the dehumid w. the fan on and be sure to clean the cab out regularly.

Thanks for the info I was thinking along the same lines with too much airflow. I'm sure sawdust will be an issue for a little while.

if you ask the guys that do water removal, they will tell you the more airflow the better.  It really helps keep the air flowing over the screens and dries them faster.  Even a small fan just moving the air in there would help.

I use a small fan (with heater on a timer if needed) as well as a dehumidifier.

We will be posting an article or two detailing drying cabinets by Douglas Grigar. In the meantime, here's a link to one by him and John Raftery that covers a lot of the basics.

Try mounting a bathroom exhaust fan in the top of the box. Also put maybe a small box fan in the bottom to draw in air. We cut a hole out of the drywall and mounted an fan with some hvac filter in front. That pulls in frsh air and the top exhaust fan pulls it through. Also get a small dehumidifier in there too. That will take a good deal of the moisture and humidity. We can dry 4 racks at a time in a little over an hour.

The shop I work in only does sports and I dislike it very much. All baseball and football leagues that don't pay for 6-8 months and bitch way to much over nothing. It keeps me motivated to make my own shop be associated with anything but sports lol.

By the way, we only have one antec manual.. I feel like we print enough for an auto, but the orders aren't large enough of the same design. All the leagues are separated into 12-15 shirts so that definitely would feel like a waste on an auto.

I'll take sports jobs but I hate em too... theres no charging enough for screen printed names and numbers and someones name no matter how careful I am gets mispelled lol.  I hate printing 100% poly too.

Yeah, luckily we're pretty good on the names since we do them often, but most of the leagues is just a simple one color front and a cheap vinyl number on the back. I like to think I've mastered the 100% poly because we do it almost everyday.. And I've got nylon jackets almost down to a science now, but I hate doing them. I guess we're one of those rare shops that almost never prints on 100% cotton. It's usually either 50/50 or 100% poly. His clients are mostly inner cities though, and I guess no one these days understand what turnaround time is. After they place an order they expect to come the same day and pick it up, as if they were the phone call we've been waiting around all day for. People have gone to sh!t.

We have a good customer here that we do athletic printing for.  The quality of the stuff he brings in from other shops is atrocious.  I mean really bad.  The ink is thick as heck and the prints are stairstepped so bad.  I think they are using all athletic inks through an 80 mesh with a pfp.

The other shop manages to screw up the numbers as well.  But you can take them off with MEK.

We are in the collegiate market and one of the top 3 companies in that market alongside Nike and Champion. We are swamped right now! I envy you guys and the large runs. Our average is 48-144 pieces with color changes and anywhere from 1-8 colors. We own setups though.

I have to shoot some more for insurance purposes so I will post an updated gallery. I am also heading to our sister company in El Salvador this month to train some of the printers and work on their equipment. I will post some pics from my travels there also.
