Laptops can't be easily upgraded so I just get the best cpu for my budget - the AMD chip isn't released in Europe but it will probably be expensive.  You can get an i3 or i5 Intel at that price.
Check http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php) for chip speeds.

Personally, I wouldn't get a laptop for graphics.  Get a desktop and then use logmein or teamviewer to access it and use the computing power of the desktop, that is easily up-gradable.

I am just not a huge fan of laptops because they are hard/expensive to upgrade.

Bump your budget up to about 1k and you can get a smoking laptop and not worry about upgrading for a while.  I got a refurbed Dell I7 quad core, 17" display and 8gb of ram for under 1k.  I use it when I'm not in the shop AND need to do work.  Desktops are still my preference as I'm a marble mouse dork spoiled with dual displays.
