Title: THE PROFIT
Post by: Dottonedan on December 02, 2014, 10:39:18 PM

I like Shark Tank and watch every chance I get. I started watching THE PROFIT the last few weeks and tonight's show is on a sign maker.
Pretty cool and interesting to see.

Not to mention he caught on to one of THE biggest things owners and people in management do. That's get into "design" suggestions or directives...and take over a project that they pay an artist to do and they aren't the designers. No background in design, "they just like to put their finger in it.  All too common and every artist gets to experience the fun.

This sign shop is profitable but "he" is bad for his business.  Interesting.

Hi Dan, if you liked the sign show go back a few programs and see the time he worked with a screen print / embroidery shop/ restraunt/ sports complex all in the same building.
I think this is the link http://www.cnbc.com/live-tv/the-profit/full-episode/artistic-stitch/345882691507 (http://www.cnbc.com/live-tv/the-profit/full-episode/artistic-stitch/345882691507)

I watch all of them I can.  Some of these businesses are ran so terrible.  Ironically at least financially the sign shop last night was in better shape than most they feature on this show.  The dude was a terrible sales person though. His growth was pretty solid though.  He didn't need a investor really is what it came down to, he wanted Marcus to spend all his sign money with him since he has so many businesses.  Not a bad play but he played it wrong.  He could have got a investment and his sign business if he was a bit smarter.

Did you guys catch the one last night?  They recapped most of the places he'd invested in.  Clearly its his money and he's lost his shirt on a few of those deals.  Suing one of them right now in fact.  Interesting stuff.  He's turned some of them into big deals.

Hooked on it along with Shark Tank.

Regarding Marcus not spending or taking funds from the show/network and what not,
I wouldn't worry about it either if I was worth a few billion dollars.  ::)
I'm in charge 100%!

Exactly, he is paid, he claims it barely covers travel.  I tend to believe it, he seems up front straight forward.  He's smart and hes got money on his side.  Look at it this way if he saves a company that's a 1 hour commercial showing how smart he is as well as a commercial about a business he now owns.  If its a great idea how could this be bad for him?

We have a client right now, on his way out to Vegas for a little R&R and an audition for Shark Tank, if he makes it might be good for us since we print for him or maybe not who knows, but I wished him all the best and told him don't let Mr. Wonderfull eat you up ;D.    I saw the Profit with the screenprint shop on youtube, never saw the actual show on TV yet, what day and time does it come on.

Started watching after reading this thread and am now completely addicted.  I've watched every episode besides the most recent three which haven't made it to Hulu yet.  In the interim I started watching Shark Tank and am almost through Season 1.  Both great shows, thanks for the recommendations.

I watched part of the profit episode and uh.....who the hell is making a 75% margin on this work we do? Maybe sign and emb push that? Or maybe it's not accurate.
