Title: Golden State Warriors a "shoe-in"? Sports rant and ramble
Post by: Frog on December 14, 2014, 11:01:21 AM
First, let me preface this by saying that I actually quit following the NBA a few years back. To me, diluting some basic tenets of a traditional game to favor acrobatic hijinks was unnecessary and blatantly commercial. Heck, for that, we have the Globetrotters. My main gripe is the amazing number of steps now allowed preceding a dunk. (I can overlook the frequent palming, and occasional high dribble during a slow transition as it doesn't really affect the flow of the game.)

That said, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, my local team, have just blossomed over the last couple of years, and I confess I sneaked a peek or two last year, and the winning streak this year is hard to ignore.

Last night, during the Warriors - Mavericks game, one of the more bizarre incidents, (and one not covered by specific rules) occurred, in which a Warrior lost a shoe, and when a teammate tried to toss it back to him, it was swatted away like a ball would be. Poor sportsmanship? Good Tactic? Worthy of a technical foul? Just plain entertaining? You be the judge.

I'm a Mavs fan so you know which way I'm leaning on that, LOVED it.

I really do like the way the Warriors play, they are a really good team and might be good enough to get to the western conference finals.

Would you have accepted a technical foul if "the shoe was off the other foot"? (my barometer on right or wrong on just about anything is role reversal)
How about intentionally smashing an opponent's glasses if they came off?

I would have accepted it and still laughed at the hilarity of it all.  Smashing glasses is in a different area in my opinion, and I would be for an ejection if it was done purposefully, and of course regardless of player or team.

Some day we can discuss the "Posey" rule as well, LOL!
