Just bought my first Shurloc 23x31 panels, got them installed and coated them this weekend. I noticed there was more corner softening that on the screens i make using mesh and strips, this made it difficult to coat the screens closer to the edge than normal, getting allot of pooling of emulsion at the corners. I was considering converting more screens to panels but this is creating some doubt as to weather I want to do so or not. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it what it is.

How close are you coating to the edge? There is about a 2" gap for us an we have no pooling.

I would say 3-4 in. out from edge.

Not sure what tensions you used for the panels, but the optimum tension for the mesh count you are stretching may help.
Another trick I have seen is to use some tape on the soft mesh area and stretch the tape tightly at a diagonal across the 4 corners of the frame. That way you can coat end to end on a Newman with softened corners.

Great Idea. .....That should solve the problem.

In my experience, after a couple of retensions the corner softness should decrease significantly.

What tape/brand are you guys using? We have tried a few different on our frames (underside) and still not 100% happy. Blue RTape has provided decent results but we sometimes use screens twice in a day and the tape starts to come off (print in the morning, breakdown, coat, re-burn). We cycle through our screens pretty fast.

Don't forget we can also tighten up those corners - or do our special cut out for the digital units where we remove the corners as well. Lots of options, just let us know what you need and we can probably get you fixed up.
We have used the same roller frame shapes for our 'standard panels' for quite a while, but there are lots of special users out there that have had us dial in a size or two for them.

Seriously, I think every request I've made has been met. Specifying the tensions I am shooting for to have the curves built for me. Cutting the corners out. And more. Another example of a manufacturer listening to their customers and building great relationships. It DOES matter.
