Title: WOW Inks?
Post by: farmboygraphics on January 30, 2015, 10:44:51 PM
We've had our auto just over a year and I find I still have a manual mentality when it comes to inks. I got used to just flashing everything on the manual and realize it's just time consuming and wasteful on the auto. I was just reading Gilligans post about maxo pfp and it never occurred to me to print an UB and a top color, mostly because it was easy to print and line up one screen. Gained a lot of great info here. To the point, because wow was never important before, I'm not sure where to begin. I use a lot of Union and have checked their site, but can't find anyplace where they specify which of their inks are best for wow. Any recommendations, I'm not stuck on Union. Thanks guys!

Ultra soft is designed for WOW. It is medium opacity. Unimatch is quite a bit better, but it's a mixing system and is very translucent (for plastisol).
Union used to sell some very nice kits, see if they are still available and try them.

As with any other brand and model, they all have their pros and cons. Pick the supplier you like and learn to use what they stock.

They all have something that will work, IMO, Wilflex Epic series.  Sounds like you are a smaller shop, you can buy standard colors and print straight from the bucket with ZERO mixing WOW.

We are moving over to Wfilex Epic.  Hit an issue yesterday with our Triangle NFL Gold/Yellow building up too much on a really long run (4,000 shirts) and I finally hit the fan.  Out of all the other ink companies we have tried I still have a soft spot for International Coatings since we have seen great things from them.  Their Nylon series is to die for, did 50 nylon jackets yesterday all one hit and was a wonderful thing.  But with all the talk of how good Wilfex is we thought we would make the move for WOW and quality control.

We have used just a lot of them. Rutland, Triangle, QCM, Miami, Performance, and a bunch more I can't even remember.

Production value is where is more important now than cost (spending $40 more per gallon on spot colors on average may sting but will show benefits on press).

I think you will be happy, I tried switching over the years to a few you have mentioned only to always come back to Wilflex, it cost more for a reason, its better.
