Title: Ink for Camo tees...
Post by: Northland on January 31, 2015, 04:05:27 PM
I've got 5 dozen Code V camo shirts that need a white print.
Will a standard low bleed like One Stroke do the job ?  -or- do I need a full-on poly white ?

I think those are 50/50 or even maybe cotton. Any good low bleed with work. The ones to be careful of are the full polyester and/or dye sublimated polyester materials. That stuff is tough to print.

Use Water base.

They are 100% cotton and bleed bad. Really BAD. I swear the dye rubs off on your hands.

Use a grey blocker.

The 100% poly digital camo use the silicone ink.

Thanks..  these are 100%cotton, but I'll be going the poly ink route.
Maybe I'll do a spare in LB to see how it ages.

I put one of these shirts on... it felt like I was wearing a child's pajamas

Use the grey blocker as Underbase37 suggested.

We've done a ton of these.  Regular low bleed white usually does not work.  Maybe if you're really careful with cure temps but we've had major bleeding with everything besides 100% poly and even the lower quality poly inks will bleed.  If you're a One Stroke guy I'd try Bravo Flex or the Production Plus for Camo.

One Stroke just introduced a new series called ELT which uses a black base with white on top.  It looks like they are targeting silicone with this series. I have some samples here but haven't been able to try them out yet.  Pic attached was provided by One Stroke.

Interested in your results.  I saw some camo poly shirts printed with this ink.  While it seemed to do a good job covering, when stretched, there was no memory of the ink film.   That is, it the ink film stretched well without cracking, but did not return to its original state leaving a significantly puckered garment.  Not an issue with silicone.

Jesus...what mesh count was used for those.  You can actually see the mesh on the jagged edge of the numbers.

I have to second Alan on the Bravo Flex.  I use it for white/light transfers on koozies and they hold up great, and those bleed so bad they turn the transfer paper the same color as the koozie in just a few seconds.

Our go to is Wilflex Performance - Grey UB + Perf White mix on the base, all Performance inks on top, cure at 290˚F.   Printing the Grey UB right out of the bucket is kind of impossible and it's a bit dark so cutting it with some white helps a ton.

I have seen black barrier UBs on a couple other systems.

I printed these shirts myself here at One Stroke Inks!! The ELT Digital black underbase  went down first 110 mesh hit/flash hit,,, then 110 mesh ELT White one hit,,,, then one hit of ELT Flo Colors. These were printed around 6 weeks ago and  what I haven't cut up to send out for customers to look at still looks perfect!
