I just got a Epson 7800 and have it loaded with 24" roll film and the black ink system through Film Direct. For some reason it will only print half the design. I'm printing my seps through Photoshop CS2. Could it be certain paper settings within PS? I installed AccuRip and it's still doing the same thing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Print a full width sample through the Windows driver. Then get back.
-
Do I still print the sample through PS or is there a way to print directly from the driver

you still print from the PS, just send directly to printer. Also try printing from a different program and rebooting the computer.

I just want to separate out the possible causes.
Print from PS via the windows driver.
Print from another programme.
Print the same file from another PC.
It could be a memory issue? How old is your PC? What's it's spec?
-
I rebooted it...didn't work.
Printed straight from the driver both with PS and Illy...didn't work.
Computer is pretty old. Running on Vista Intel core 2 duo at 2.13 ghz and 3 gb ram.
I'll try with my laptop and see if that works. Thanks for the feedback guys!

Let us know how the laptop goes.
Can you change from USB to ethernet? Just to eliminate the cabling.
-
Laptop did the same thing too. I can set it up with an ethernet cable just need to figure out how.
-
That suggests that it is on the printer side rather than programmes or PC. Not good.
When it stops printing, does it fade out (that's ink delivery) or does it stop suddenly (electronic/signal failure)?
-
It just stops at about 9" from the margin. It stops in the same place with any design I try to print
-
how long is the cable running to it?
-
I've used both a 6 ft and 10 ft...same results.
-
Are you saying that it prints 15" wide?
-
If I'm looking at the printer it prints from the right side to about 8.5" to the left and stops, so it prints about 8.5" wide.
-
I suspect that it thinks that you have 16" film in there!
Take the film out, put some paper in and try again, I don't think that it's seeing your film. You can turn the auto-sensing paper function off in the menu.
-
That's exactly what it was. It had no idea the film was probably in there. I turned off the paper size check and it worked. Thank you so much Squeezee!

My pleasure :)

I'm having the same problem on an epson 3000. I'm using fastrip and ps9. I was told it was the fastrip so i got the trial of accurip and the same thing. I've tried making sure the paper is set the same. The only success i have had is to turn off the printer, then unplug it, turn off the fastrip then turn it all back on. Then it will print correctly for a few films, then wham...it cuts it off again. Usually at 8.5 inches but several times at 6". I've tried re-installing drivers and looking for new patches for the 3000, which I couldn't find. Once in awhile it does this when printing documents, then it cuts it off at 6", it doesn't fade, just stops it. This is in width, length it runs the full print.
Please post any info you find for this problem.

did you try printing on paper?
pierre

yes, sometimes it prints correctly on paper, sometimes it doesn't. I forgot to mention above, I use 13" wide film. SO i got the idea to try and "fool" it, i set all the paper settings to A2 which is 16"...and walla it worked...perfect films for about 4 runs and then boom, back to cutting it off again.

What happens with the windows driver?
-
now i am really confused. It printed it correctly with the windows driver. WHich points back to the RIP, right? Yet i tried a different RIP and it did the same thing. But i must add, it does it periodically when i print invoices on this printer too, cuts off the left side of the page on a letter size page.
On the films it cuts off the left side of the print as you are looking at the printer.
I'm wondering if it is the cable or something? I had to get a parallel to serial cable when i got a new computer 2 years ago. It was a cheaper one off the internet. I started having trouble with the printer cutting off the films about 6 months ago but it was only once in awhile and has gradually gotten worse. Most of the time it works for a few films if i shut off and unplug the printer and close the rip, then turn on and re-open.

Did you set up AccuRIP correctly? Do you have the right RIP for the wide format printer? There are two AccuRIP's. One for small format and one for large format Epsons. Please call Charlie Facini, the creator of AccuRIP and he will help you. He is a great guy. I don't have the office number but there is extensive help on the website and his number is there. It is the Freehand Graphics website. Lots of help there also.
I am not a dealer - We have 7600's, 7880's, 4880's AccuRIP, and Wasatch
AccuRIP, when set correctly with proper blacks is flawless.
Here is the web address (hope I did this right)

Thanks Ron, I got the trial accurip thru Bob at performance screen. I set it up but he went over it with me and it was correct and yes for the smaller printer. That's why I don't think it's a rip problem. My fastrip is old so i thought yeah maybe. But when it does the same thing with the accurip then it can't be that. I'm really frustrated with it and not sure what else to try.
-
I'd definitely use the ethernet card, you can pick one up for pennies on ebay, it's a lot more reliable.
-
I'll try that, thanks squeezee!

I have a customer who was having the exact same issue. I believe she said it turned out to be a rip issues.
Look up the member name of my2bratts. That is Judy. Email her or look up the website to get a phone number. She might help or maybe you can help her. Not sure if she got it taken care of.
-
Dan, it is me! Got a another rip and same problem. But thanks!
