I am thinking about trying a different brand emulsion. Part of our plan B program, which basically says never be single sourced on anything.
Currently we use Ulano QTX and are happy with it.
Can someone make a suggestion for Chromaline
and Murakami brands please
Price is not so much an issue as performance or suitability to what we do.
The specifics
manual printer
plastisol inks
spot color printer some halftones
we like to coat minimum 2/2
123, 156, 180 , 230 mesh on rollers all 30Nm or more
standard mesh but switching to s-mesh currently
Thanks guys and gals

Chromablue is almost a twin to QTX, just blue. Works the same, for us. Also, its WAY cheaper if you buy by the case than QTX. Murakami HV or HVP are also good, I think Danny is using Aquasol. I assume you are looking for another Photopolymer.
-
Saati Chem Textil PV is real close to QTX ..personally i love how it works..
-
In Chromaline, for years I loved the PL (but I didn't like the price, and have switched almost exclusively to CCI PFX-HV) From Murakami, I have used the Aquasol HV, and still do the few times I use my Wilflex/Oasis Pasticharge
-
if you are not looking for an SBQ, we are in the process of switching everything to CCI DC Plus! Holds amazing resolution and will work for plastisol and discharge. And its green, I was told by the CCI rep that their studies show that green emulsions hold better resolution than any other color. Who knows..

Since Dirk added a different brand I will throw in my 2 cents worth. Nova and QXL. Both are Xenon and some of the best emulsion I have ever used. The QXL is a thick Gasket emulsion and the Nova is a high detail emulsion. Either with added diazo work great with WB and Discharge. Just coat dry shoot dry and print. No added steps necessary. Nova is $52 per gallon and QXL is $68 per gallon.

Thanks all, I am going to score a couple of quarts from the suggestions and see what shakes out.
as always youz is da bestas

We used Chromablue for a long time... we switched to Kiwo Onecoat and never really looked back.
Our supplier made a mistake and tried to make it better by giving us a "free" gallon of chromablue... ughh.. we couldn't use it fast enough to get back to our Kiwo.
They are basically the same thing, but the chroma blue has sticking issues and we have to powder the screens to keep the film from sticking. It also stinks up the developing tank something terrible. After going through that gallon we had to clean out the developing tank because just opening the lid would have the whole shop smelling like rotten eggs. :(

Another good emulsion from CCI is the HXT which I use and also Image Mate's DC 521 Blue Dual Cure emulsion both hold great detail. The image mate is very forgiving on light sources's if your using a color mesh other than white.

Hxt use in water base or plastisol?. What is your exposure time.?
-
We just tested some HXT and for no diazo it works pretty well for detail. Easily held a 85 LPI 5% linearized dot on a 305. Going to test it on some WB jobs this week to see how durable it is.
-
+1 for Textil PV. I just post-expose since I use WB ink.
-
I have been using a few over a last 2-3 years. Started with Imagemate 701, then pricing doubled.
Then tried Chromablue from Chromaline. Loved everything but the blue color.
Finally, now settled at Chromaline CT-R which is pretty much Chromablue with red color :)
High on solids, pretty fast when exposing. Very easy to coat.
-
@ noortrd every thing J blue said and I've only did small runs of 100 or a little over with the HXT for DC and it held up good and that's using it without the diazo mixed in, yes I use it for both but mainly plastisol inks.
-
we've been using the Saati Red PHU emulsion for a couple months now, and it's pretty awesome. It exposes fast, holds detail great, and really stands up to DC and WB when coated/exposed correctly.
-
What light unit ? Our have 3k? What u recommmand for water base?
-
I'll second the PHU, going on two years with it now. Builds a nice stencil.
-
Since you asked for those two brands I will say murakami aquasol ts. It's a photopolymer that we use with diazo here and it's an amazingly great emulsion from what I've seen. One of my top emulsions right now actually and highly recommended. I couldn't really find anyone that stocked it but contact Alan here from murakami and he can get you setup. But that emulsion does everything I want of one emulsion and much much more.
-
Have you tried the SP 1400 Danny? How would the TS compare? I stopped using the HVP due to sticking from humidty (not bad, but it happened) and the loss of super fine detail on some stencils. It also just didnt hold up to DC as well as I wanted with my expo unit. The 1400 takes longer to expose but it is FANTASTIC in every other way for me, and dirt cheap.
-
If there is a Murakami product you guys want me to stock; that I don't already let me know. TS is one I currently do not stock, but would be more than happy to if it would help cut your delivery times down.
-
How hard would it be to get a sample quart and what would the pricing be?
-
If I were going back to a photopolymer, I'd use Murakami's HVP. I liked the "see thru" visibility of the pink -- made setups on lower mesh counts easier.
I've been using Saati Grafic HU dual-cure for a couple of years now. Very easy reclaim, very good detail, can be used with solvent, plastisol, and some waterbased. Lasts 90 days after mixing if kept out of a hot environment. I've not done any long-run waterbased to test how well it holds up, or with discharge.
My biggest beef with the HVP was a tendency to break down into gummy, stringy hunks in reclaim that were harder to clean out. It depended upon the ink used. I have the same trouble to some degree at the shop in Daytona I work at part-time with Tubelite's photopolymer emulsion.
-
Saati Chem PHU. That stuff is great. Using 2 years now. Have tried about everything and just can't find anything close. Seems like the sp 1400 is popular which I have never tried. Going to see if I can get a sample. How's the viscosity on that stuff?
-
How is the viscosity of the PHU?
-
I'm stuck on CCI WR-25. For everything.
We all seem to have moved away from it....except ME!
I see nothing wrong with it, so until I do, Ima stay put.
I'm a low volume shop so I divide the gallons of emulsion into 5 evenly filled containers and I weigh out the diazo into 5 bottles. My emulsion is always fresh. I can weigh down to 100th of a gram.
And its RIDICULOUS cheap.
I. Am. Ridiculous. Cheap. Just sayin'....
(It's an illness.)
-
How is the viscosity of the PHU?
It's a medium high viscosity. I think Scott at spot color supply wil, provide sample ar a discount to give it a try.
-
Whats the price of saatichem phu.

we pay $48 per gallon

Where you getting it. PM me if you don't want to post. Thanks.

We are testing Ulano Orange this coming week on the new Workhorse LED. We have been using Textile PV forever but I am hoping that Orange will give a little bit quicker exposure times.

we get ours from reece supply in Houston.
-
Still not found best no diazo emulsion for water base and discharge.
-
We have had good results with the Saati PHU and Kiwo Discharge, when post exposed does fine with discharge and WB. But of course it's dependent on the size of the run, the most we have done has been 500 double stroked discharge with either of them.
-
With diazo or without diazo?.
-
No Diazo, straight out of the bucket.
-
KIWO discharge was my go to for a LONG time, and I still love that emulsion, but without diazo it will break down. And its WAY over priced.
-
The best price we have found is Ulano orange for $175 for a 5 gallon delivered.
-
Like I said we have only used on shorter runs. The only time I had an issue with the Kiwo was 200 sleeves printing over the edge of the pallet. I'm doing a 1800 run on mondy and not chancing it, running the Ulano Double Duty.
-
If you want an orange, look at cci orange, cheap, and I promise when you take the lid off you will want to drink the whole gallon. It smells awesome!
-
CCI orange for water based and discharge without diazo?
-
CCI orange for water based and discharge without diazo?
no, its for plastisol
-
Actually, if it's the TX Orange you're talking about, the tech sheet says good for Plastisol, WB and Discharge
-
Anyybody check cci orange for waterbase and discharge?
