Title: Don't ya love it (a kick to the nads)
Post by: bimmridder on March 11, 2015, 11:04:01 AM
Don't you love it when you follow the rules, follow your ethics, and try to maintain a level playing field, and STILL get kicked in the nads? We have assorted licenses. We fought to get them and keep them. We pay the royalties. We open our books every year for audits. We bust our butts to make money doing things the right way, and strive to build the business for all parties involved. Then we hear about two UN-licensed printers selling, not only in our market, but to customers we earned and served well. Our sales all but disappeared with this customer, while someone else was selling bootleg merchandise. This wasn't a few shirt here and there. The numbers I saw from the end buyer show a retail dollar amount of just north of $495,000. Those are sales we didn't have a chance to make. But I also know we WERE selling to the retailer until our sales dropped for some reason (hmmm?) They weren't our copyrighted design, so we have no recourse. I just hope that properties goes after them for the  revenue (royalties) that they lost because of this. I'm usually not a vindictive person, but I hope someone puts the hurt on these two companies. It will do nothing to benefit us, but the knowledge that something happens would be nice. And yes, we know the two companies that sold the bootleg merchandise, and the retailer that was buying it. Well, back to making some honest money.

I have no problem doing something about it when an illegal activity is interfering with my (in this case your) business! Turn them in!

Call the old customer and tell him the license holder will be going after the bootleggers and that they might be on the hook too!

Dave this chit goes on all the time, not just to you but all of us that play by the rules and we end up getting rear ended by cheaters and guess what they keep doing the same thing under a new name and possible new city.  I was talking with my wife the other day about playing by the rules and told her I get sick of playing by the rules and watching all the cheaters doing it up, but my moral's will keep me broke. :(

No No No!

Big difference between the form the TARDIS is stuck in (Blue Police Box) and a Red British phone booth.
The Blue Police box has access to the phone from the outside, and of course is only used to talk to the police. The Box itself is a small holding cell if necessary.

Guess I should pay more attention. All I know is when I walk by my wife and daughter watching T.V. I see a flying phone booth. I make fun and they throw stuff at me!

Yes I'd say at least inquire Dave.

Hey Mr. H - It's a "Blue" box, just off a couple of shades.  :)

Darryl, this particular thread veering off subject is a perfect example of how dynamic a forum thread can be, with posts changing only by a small increment each time.
Perfectly logical steps, changing one small degree of separation at a time.

Bootlegging.
Report them (drop a dime)
Reference dropping a dime to making a call from a pay phone
What's a Pay Phone?
Reference to Dr Who's TARDIS
Difference between Pay Phone and Police Phone Box pointed out.(we certainly don't want mis-imformation here at TSB  ;)

I hold a license in a particular field, and bootleggers stole multiple jobs from me already this year.  I complain to the powers that be, but nothing can be done.  The same group that I am licensed for will buy from unlicensed printers to save money.  How can I win?

All I could add is that you kept to your standards, and can sleep at night. That's priceless.

I think the price to public would be that much.  Not what he would charge the client.

Who was it? Might know of them since we are so close. We had TONS of people asking us to print Royals stuff last year during the championship, and we wouldn't do it. It's literally not worth it to get caught and loose our business.

You should at least tip off the proper licensing people to go after them.

It's a bitter pill to swallow, but you also won't worry about ending up in court yourself.

Ugh.

I would ask the licensing agent exactly what you are paying them for if clients can buy that much product from any shop willing to bootleg.  That's crazy to me that it went on so long.

Also,  the client didn't have a problem sourcing that much illegal merch? Maybe better off without them.
